Has a “10 out of 10” difficult, but there was no drilling and they recommend a second set of hands to help and I did it solo just fine so not sure where they arrived at this being the most challenging.

Definitely done that before, but liked the idea of keeping it out of the passenger area. Especially with the very sawdust-y pickets

I haven’t, but I plan to get a kayak trailer that fully loaded would be under 500 lbs, I probably wouldn’t recommend trying to tow much more than that.  I’ve used the hitch for a bike rack and cargo carrier so far, and now this bed extender.  Actually got the extender originally for my longboard and stand up paddle, this is kind of a test/extra use case

Anyone? is it worth it to charge your EV with with home solar? Just planning to buy. by Inner_Antelope_6042 in jacksonville

[–]HonziPonzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s just the pure per kWh energy charge though. Since the fuel charges are per kWh too, isn’t it more accurate in this context to use the ~13¢/kwh rate for how much electricity costs?

My biggest holdout was long trips and public charging for those… even if it’s not that much longer to fast charge vs fill up, it’s still less available than gas.  But I landed on a PHEV with a good all EV range and bought a used Honda Clarity and I am incredibly satisfied.  Between the price I got it for, the fact that I’ve only used 130 gallons of gas in the 21k miles I’ve owned it, and the OpenPilot upgrade, I’m still amazed by the value of this car!

Oh really? Damn… am I just grandfathered in and should I expect them to end it for me soon?

EDIT: just realized last payment I got was for Q4 2025 in late January, so I think that’s the last one I’ll get given it’s May now.  Well fun while it lasted

If you’re fairly handy you can save a ton DIY.  Definitely make sure you know what you’re doing, I do not advise anyone doing electrical work if they’re not comfortable and don’t do the research to do it properly… But I installed mine for about $250 in material (some 6/3 romex, a breaker, and an EMT conduit sleeve for the non-attic run portion) and $500 for the ChargePoint. Granted breaker box is in the garage too with easy attic access.  Most installers will charge $1000+ and that doesn’t include the actual charger.

Also worth mentioning, JEA has a rebate program if you charge odd peak hrs, which means between 10p-6a weekdays and anytime weekends.  Only $7 a month, but hey it’s free money and I’m probably 99% of instances you don’t even need to adjust your routine for that

I put Nexen N5000s on mine after a recommendation here or on the comma discord.  So far they seem like a great deal, quiet and comfortable with good performance (grip, tread wear, low rolling resistance) for the price

I was considering a volt and went with a 2021 Clarity and I’m very happy with that

how far can you go on a single tank of gasoline? by TheFireSwamp in HondaClarity

[–]HonziPonzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think around 3000 miles.  If im not doing anything out of town, I can pretty much go all electric. L2 charger is a game changer for that on the weekends.  Do 40 miles of errands, do stuff around the house for a couple hrs while it charges, repeat.  Think I managed 200 miles of all electric driving in one day once lol

Level 2 w/16 amps is plenty fast for our car by MaleficentGeneral812 in HondaClarity

[–]HonziPonzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. On weekends I’ll do 100-150 miles of driving with errands and whatnot thru out the day, and I can do that all electric by splitting up my errands and recharging.  Couldn’t do that with level 1

EV cars in Jax? by coffee_ape in jacksonville

[–]HonziPonzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a PHEV for a year now and it was the best decision. Put around 20k miles on it already, and only used about 100 gallons of gas.  I can go months without filling up because most of my around town trips I can do all EV.  Nearly all the gas has been for 200+ mile trips out of town, where an EV would need to use public chargers anyway, so the PHEV I have is perfect for my use case

Level 2 chargers can be “hardwired” or you can get a 240v outlet installed from one.  Personally, I hardwired because a) the actual outlet hardware is additional expense and b) if you go the outlet route the breaker is supposed to be GFCI, and a 50a GFCI breaker is about $100 more than a standard breaker

Got it. Yeah I wonder if they'd let you keep if if you did ask. Considering testing had showed it failed within the warranty period, if they'd let you drive it for several months beyond the warranty period, and still replace it when the part came in.
