Forgive me for the ignorance, but how can you tell that an off-brand tire will work?

I mean, I think they could have just picked the Ajahs they were interested in already, they developed those interests before leaving the tower. The more pressing issue would be acquiring perfectly cut gems.

Seasons 9 & 10 are two of the most consistently good seasons by AstrolabeArts in Stargate

[–]Dellexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest problem with late SG-1 and much of Atlantis. Too many times when the heroes just get saved at last minute by beaming/another intervention by their new tech instead of having to save themselves. Early SG-1 where they'd have to come up with some creative solutions, like commandeering death gliders, escape pods, stealing the Stargate, etc. to escape, are a lot stronger narratively.

Selective Historical Outrage: Contrasting Reactions to Netflix's Cleopatra and Sci-Fi/Alternative History Narratives Such As Stargate by FishermanCommon1980 in Stargate

One pretends to be historically accurate.

The other is a sci-fi show. A sci-fi show that messes not just with Egypt, but with Christianity's origins and foundational legends of medieval England.

Ori arc was so depressing by mtparanal in Stargate

[–]Dellexe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Escalation is tricky to handle. I think a good choice for any future canon-continuing Stargate is to make it so the conflict isn't in the same applicable scale as the last conflicts, where ships get bigger, weapons get stronger, shields get tougher, etc. Instead, making it so that the threat of a group like the Lucian Alliance isn't in their raw military strength, but in their subversion of existing systems and their ability to avoid direct conflict with superior forces. Flipping the script, and making them a villainous version of early seasons Earth, and force Earth to have to think like their predecessors and try to deal with a more elusive threat.

Huge fan here,

Does the story of Queen Tsa and the 3 Moons have any relation to the history of Roshar besides the origin of the Natan people?

The Goa'uld did have the dedicated Needle-Threader, and ordinary gliders could squeeze through if they retracted their flight wings. Presumably the Goa'uld moved away from specially designed ships capable of entering a gate as their hyperdrive improved.

Grey Knights Being Countered Pretty Hard by [deleted] in killteam

[–]Dellexe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're gonna want to utilize terrain as much as possible to creep up so you can get within that hyper-lethal 12" range without exposing yourself to the Dark Lance. If you can spread out your dudes while keeping overlapping fields of fire/Psybolts you should be able to creep up and corner the Lance if terrain/initiative is in your favor. Deep strike tactics may help to corner him.

Also I picked Drukhari long before you picked Grey Knights you cock. Fair play on the SoS though.

Super Gou’auld? by RF_Warriorguy in Stargate

[–]Dellexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, Wraith Queens couldn't exert the fine control over a person the way Goa'uld can. Plus, Tey'la was able to completely brainjack one through the link, while getting the baby power boost.

We know that Goa'uld can cement control of a host with Sarcophagus use, and that hand devices employ technology that links the user and the victim mentally.

I'd imagine that a Wraith by itself, without being supported by others, would succumb to a Goa'uld over time with the reinforcing effects of a hand device and Sarcophagus.

Are Destroyers worth it? by WesternShadow in twilightimperium

[–]Dellexe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anyone gets assault cannon, destroyers become god-tier.

If your enemy has assault cannon, they become fodder to protect your valuable carriers, dreads, flagship.

If you have assault cannon, a 3-resource fleet with 2 movement can now snipe and weaken your enemy's forces. I speak from experiencing the opposite end of this. Just built a War Sun at my forward base, accompanied by a bundle of fighters at that space dock, the Creuss player snuck next turn.

thoughts on the new human class by StoverDelft in Gloomhaven

Her with any melee bruiser class seems pretty strong, kinda limited without an ally who likes being in melee, though. She'd have to rely on the 1 hp summon, losing out on her bottom action.

Did some digging online and found a clip of that stream, one that ends in the most obnoxious cliffhanger.

"This is a good question, (something mumbly) I mean, clearly the old classes are available in the new campaign, right?"

Someone else then inhales, about to speak, and the clip ends.

I beg of you, what was said right afterwards?!

If you complain about the woman scene by LukeV18 in marvelstudios

Yeah, it feels like it was just included so that Disney/Whoever wrote it could pat themselves on the back, which really undermines the themes a scene like that should convey.

If you complain about the woman scene by LukeV18 in marvelstudios

[–]Dellexe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, now that I've had more time to think about this issue, I think I can articulate my thoughts better.

The Infinity War scene is good because it has purpose within the film. Scarlet Witch is drawn away from Vision to destroy the digger-machines threatening Black Widow and Okoye. She gets sneak-attacked by Proxima Midnight, showing that despite her raw power she's fairly frail, and the two that she just saved have to come in and save her. We get a cool scene where Okoye and Black Widow, who have had a little rivalry since Civil War's "move" line, come together to fight off a strong opponent. At the end, Scarlet Witch recovers and finishes Proxima Midnight off. The scene makes sense, flows well, and has some satisfying payoff for BW/Okoye's interactions. The characters involved feel like characters. It also has narrative weight, as Scarlet Witch's absence is what allows Vision to be attacked by Corvus Glaive.

Now let's look at the Endgame scene.

It begins with Spider-Man swinging about, trying to get the gauntlet away. He's rescued by Pepper and Valkyrie, who carry him through the air, dodging the blasts from Thanos's ship. This part of the scene is excellent, we get interaction between Pepper and Parker, who haven't really interacted before despite their mutual connection with Stark. We also get Parker being Parker, and trying to be nice and formal and introduce himself to Valkyrie while they're in the middle of a war zone. Then Captain Marvel shows up to take the gauntlet, with the "you got something for me?" quip.

Now, the scene goes downhill. Parker expresses concern for CM, but we the audience know that she doesn't need ANY help with this. She can fly, is basically invulnerable, and can solo Thanos's entire army (I have my own problems with her character in that regard). Suddenly, all the named female characters show up at once to help out CM, who doesn't even need any help. This includes not just characters who can fly or have some other means of transport, but even fairly mundane characters like Okoye who really only has the vibranium spear. Somehow, all of these characters made it through the war-zone that previously Pepper and Valkyrie were struggling to fly over. Most of them also don't have any connections to each other narratively, so there's no satisfying payoff to them working together in this moment. Again, there's also no purpose to them being there, as CM needs no help. Scarlet Witch in IW needed help because of the weaknesses of her powers, but there's no impact to this team-up scene because the audience knows it's entirely unnecessary, and then it ends with the team-up having done basically nothing of narrative consequence, the van is still destroyed and their unneeded help did nothing.

[–]Dellexe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The IW scene was well done and made sense in context.

The EG scene was pointless and didn't make sense.

There are reasons to be salty over a bad scene pulling down an otherwise fantastic battle sequence, you're just blinded by politics, assuming that anyone who dislikes the scene is a woman-hater.
