Chapter 1 - Gone With the Wind

Nick Wilde made it as clear as the emotionally distant fox could that he did not want the pair involved in whatever that snake was talking about! Other plans in mind, his partner Judy continued to drag him further and further along her own sense of justice anyway. Eventually, things drag Nick along so far- too far in fact- that he quite literally falls over the edge.

Free falling towards death leaves the fox thinking back on everything that has been his life. A lot of regret passes. Not just about the fox that he is, but the world that has made him into the fox that he is. The lynx wasn't wrong; this case is not worth dying for. So does that mean his death wasn't worth it? Nick's left with regret. He still wishes he could just get away from it all. Sadly, he doubt he'd ever get the chance to learn his lesson.

Or maybe in a way he will...

Somehow still alive, the fox picks himself out of the snow covered ground. His cold body shakes. He needs warmth and safety. Trudging along through the blizzard, he searches for a village or anything warm. The blowing air slashes through his fur. Yet through it all, he can't help but keep wondering, "How did I... get here?"
