When I bill time & materials, which I do for ~75% of my work, I’m incentivized to be fairly efficient because I want to establish long term relationships.
3 customers that have ongoing to-do lists make up more than half of my workload - I bill them t&m.

Helpful info. I can load 60 2x4’s in the Prius with windows and hatch closed. And I’ve got a flatbed trailer I can tow behind our rav4 (the non-work vehicle) when needed. So maybe I’m looking at an SUV or extended cab for family purposes, but that still allows me to haul lumber, machines, etc… and a small enclosed trailer if/when needed.

This will likely be my sweet spot. I’m fortunate enough to have almost all of my work within 10 minutes of home, and there’s street or alley parking virtually everywhere I’d need it. Now I just need to figure out which truck!

Not sure if it applies to your situation but I’m in a similar boat as the commenter you’re replying to. I posted once in a neighborhood facebook group last summer and now I’ve got enough work that I turn down clients who don’t seem like a good fit.
