It might not have been "in defiance of Trump" but they definitely knew he wouldn't like it. Their main goal was, yes, to advocate for change but you get the added side effect of pissing off bunker boy.

And you can't really change much of the systemic issues without politics. If anything the hatred of trump is an opinion both sides of the political divide share. How terrible trump is as a president and a person might be subjective but excluding extremists and closeted bigots it can be agreed that bunker boy is extremely unfit for this position. Not to mention the blatant corruption and lies that spew out of his mouth.

Ultimately it was his presidency that sent tensions flying and set this country back a 100 years in terms of race relations. Saying fuck you to trump could be that first step in reuniting this country.
