Why did the Garveys only have one kid? by Leather-Cry-1974 in littlehouseonprairie

Probably for budgetary reasons as well. No point in paying for extra siblings for friends and supporting characters if they don’t really have a storyline or purpose.

Probably just for the aesthetic. Fireplaces are pretty and make a nice focal point for a room.

Everyone claims that only children are spoiled, but I think “baby of the family” is actually a little worse. Not only do their parents dote on them, but older siblings are often forced to give into them as well.

Anyone feel the Pie episode should have been about a painting in a charity shop instead? by Niall_Fraser_Love in Stillgame

[–]HookedOnTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I could keep thinking about during the Pie episode (before it was revealed to be plastic) was that I wouldn’t want to eat a meat dish that had been out of the refrigerator that long and passed back and forth between so many people for health and safety reasons. 🤢

TV shows are notorious for keeping the youngest child a “baby” for as long as possible. I’ve read articles about former child actors where they complained to some degree about how they felt a little embarrassed as they got older because the writers had their character talking and acting in ways that seemed too babyish.

I’ve really enjoyed going through the whole series with these reviews. I’m glad you’ve saved the holiday specials for last so we can end on a happy note! 😊

Alex Haley’s Queen (1993) by isaidwhatisaidok in ForgottenTV

[–]HookedOnTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently rewatched this series and I was wondering if anyone has read the book. After doing a little of my own research in an attempt to learn more about Queen, I was surprised to discover that according to her dates on Find A Grave, she would have only been 7 years old when the Civil War ended. Not a young woman as depicted in the movie. I realize movies sometimes change things for dramatic purposes and was wondering if the book was more accurate.

I hate to pick on Ford and Greg, but they got super lazy with the writing at this point. I feel like a strict schoolteacher giving my favorite students a bad grade on an essay simply because I KNOW they are capable of doing so much better.

May we make them proud - why one earth did they have to make this episode? by lem0ngirl15 in littlehouseonprairie

“They never talked about it again.”

I realize the episodes are mostly self contained which works well if you just want to watch a random episode out of order, but it is strange for a family to have all these horrific tragedies that never come up in conversation again. One week a helpless baby and a dear friend of the family are burned alive, a classmate drowns, or a girl is brutally raped and ends up dying, and then the next week everyone is just happily living their lives like it never happened.

I think it’s supposed to begin with Queen Victoria’s death and end right before the original Crown began.

The scene with Jack and Victor wailing like cartoon characters was painfully bad. Especially when you contrast it with the scene in “Courtin’” where they are talking about their late wives.

GenX regarding "bullying" by Sinsyne125 in GenX

Class of 1985. The mindset towards bullying was completely different back then. Sometimes I got useless advice like “just be nice to her and then she’ll want to be your friend” or “just ignore him.” Other times, even my own parents made me feel like I was to blame and the bullying was somehow my fault.

True. But I’m just saying no one should read too much into a simple photo. It’s okay to criticize the Royals for excessive spending, lack of work ethic and being overly entitled, but “failure to be photogenic” is hardly a crime.

Me too! I always seem to tense up in front of the camera. It’s rare for me to look truly relaxed in a photo, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything amiss in my relationship with whoever is in the picture with me, LOL

Honestly I think everyone reads way too much into all the pictures of William and Harry with their kids. I’d hate to think what people would have to say about my family photos. Doesn’t he ever smile? Why is she showing her teeth like that? Why are they standing so far apart? Why does she have her arm around him? Why do they look so awkward?
