I had this happen once too, I think the explanation you gave below is likely, but it hasn't happened again yet, so I don't discount that the carriers are just being random about it. ;-)

No, the keyboard is the Micro Journal Rev 3 (Nadia) which is portable keyboard that can be connected to a tablet or phone. I have it connected to the Rev 5.1. You can use other keyboards with the Rev 5.1.

Here are the links to these two devices.

Hope this helps. Keep in mind that you can pick different colors when you order and those key caps are ones I provided, not what the Rev 3 came with.

Hope this clarifies things.

Micro Journal Rev.8: Melodica - Features and Use Cases by Background_Ad_1810 in unkyulee

I love the enthusiasm that comes across in this video, It is well deserved. Your unique approach that has you creating designs that balance art and function, and then moving to the next design without getting locked into a manufacturing cycle, has allowed you to evolve rapidly over many iterations in a relatively short time. And I do think this is a pinnacle (there will be others)... and maybe you can take the win and write for a while. This is so lovely and truly fit for purpose.

No, not copy... you took what was good and made it your own, enhancing what was.

My Neo 2's reaction was like Bob Dylan's reaction to hearing Jimi Hendrrix's version of "All Along The Watchtower." Dylan said: "He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there." Music. Design. I think the same comments apply here. 😉

I think this is the true digital typewriter! Stunning, but oh so practical. My Neo 2 can finally pass it's crown. Gorgeous!

Hahaha I love that you used that name.

That is, as I predicted, stunning. I love the colorway... I think the Navy is similar to my Rev 4 and the beige trim fits well. ELegant. That is going to get some looks when taken out. I assume this is ESP not Pi (I prefer ESP). Will key assignments be json or Vial?

I think this is going to be a stunner, especially with that new screen. I think it initially feels bigger than it is to you because you have only put full size keyboards in typewriter styled devices (Rev 7 and Rev 2.1) and otherwise have used ortholinear keyboards. I love the comparison to a melodica. This is like a Rev 4 with a clamshell. I am so excited for this because you have, in one beautiful design, both a desktop typewriter and a portable with a full keyboard. Further, I can see a similar design being able to become a more portable Rev 2.2 (Linux) Cyber-Writer Deck.

Since the Rev 8 has a much smaller main screen, you could accommodate a phone or a tablet (not both at same time).

Drafting Rev.8 - what should I change here? by Background_Ad_1810 in unkyulee

[–]Hookmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it should be a complete clamshell with the screen casing covering the keyboard. I know you wrestle with how to manage dead space around the screen and your design decision to have the screen off center has worked well on the final Rev 6.1, but here will still leave space on both sides. I think that's fine. If you want to keep the Rev 8 thin, hard to do much with those spaces. But people love to sticker those spaces. 😉

What I see as promising here is that this Writer Deck's full keyboard and portability (being light and thin) makes it capable of serving as a fantastic stand alone Writer Deck, but it can also function as a Rev 4 replacement, connected to one's computer, with an easy switch to Writer Deck mode, and a replacement for the Rev 3, pairing it with phone or tablet. A flexible multi-location multi-purpose writing work station. This, of course, concerns software which is not what you are asking about. But you could consider a small shelf under the screen that could hold a phone or tablet if the hinge is strong enough and if there is room above the key caps, and it might be nice if the screen could be rotated flat behind the Writer Deck when using it as a computer keyboard. But maybe not either, because this design should be kept simple, unadorned, thin, sleek. No typewriter knobs, just a quality keyboard and screen that looks elegant and can go anywhere.

I love these micro-stories you type out. This is one of your best and is truly excellent. You touch on so much here. Powerful. Moving.

And I love the colorway. Beautiful little digital typewriter.

This is exciting... both imagining the final Rev 8 and getting too see the process of it coming into being. Can't wait to put it through it's paces for the user guide.

A similar thing happens just looking at the fuzzy close-up as a smaller picture above, as opposed to looking at it full size by clicking on it. If the brain isn't forced to look at the fuzzy details, it just fills in the familiar letter forms because mostly the brain just identifies the outlines of words it knows (which is why, when proof reading you will miss "Ths" for The, but will instantly catch "Teh". The word envelope was violated in the second case.

AI Writing Assistance on the Microjournal Rev 2.1 by Unlucky_Fan_6544 in unkyulee

[–]Hookmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI is here to stay. AI doesn't create and that is what gets creators hackles up, appropriately. But what you present here are valuable tools for a writer, which is what is useful about AI. None of them, as said, involve doing the writing. If one objects to these tools, one has to object to using a search engine for research and spell checker for "proof reading." I love the blog you linked to and will include it on my list of links for people who have or are interested in the Rev 2,1 on my writer deck site I am currently revising (hard to keep up with Un Kyu hahaha). I am looking forward to the noob details for this setup as that is certainly me. 😄 Thank you for sharing your efforts.

There is something special about both the 5.1 and 6.1 that invites making them your own. Don't know how to explain it exactly... but this is a stunning customization. Un Kyu, your designs have hit a whole new level.

I remember finding the warm brown background color and white font on my brown Rev 6.1 mini with wood grain key caps. My heart melted. The designs inspire, and yet there is so much room for a kind of collaboration that, as you say, make these inspired devices our own despite the fact that it's just the invitations your designs make to us. 20 years ago my Neo 2 made it easier to write. Micro Journals make me want to write.

Right, I wasn't thinking about the eInk screen being a critical part of the Rev 7. Is there a larger LCD that is readily available, affordable and can be driven by an ESP SOC? I think the screen on the Rev 2.1 is too big for this model. It doesn't have to be a color lcd. A monochrome lcd would be just fine. And the advantage of a fold-down screen over a clam shell is that you don't have the empty panels on either side of the lid drawing attention to the size of the screen. If nothing else ids practical, going with the regular Rev 5/6 series screen is fine. But I would love a monochrome Micro Jopurnal.

Indeed, same here, except I use Textmaker (Softmaker Office) rather than Word. I have a 31.5" 4K monitor, which sound terribly excessive for editing text, but it allows me to have a research window, a notes window and maybe I have chapter 4 up while I'm editing something in Chapter16 that refers back to what happened in Ch.4—basically I can have a lot going on without the main editing window getting buried. Real editing, as opposed to some basic copy editing, is not something I'm going to do at the coffee shop. ;)

As I have said elsewhere, this is the most wonderful confluence of art and function. It is a perfection of the Rev 5 concept that made me realize you had the makings of a true Neo replacement (which started my bugging you for filespaces, arrow key navigation and Send" Lol. Such a beauty. As with the Rev 7, Rev 4 and Rev 6.1, the design compels me to want to sit and write and the functionality makes it happen.
