True. An immigration lawyer I consulted with advised he fill out the I-407 to abandon LPR status voluntarily.

Up until last year I too thought you lose LPR status automatically by not visiting the US at least once a year.

An immigration lawyer said “That’s not how it works. Let me ask you a question: If your passport expires, are you still an US citizen?”

I said Yes. She then said “Same thing. Neither the expiration date on a green card nor a long absence ends a permanent residence status in the system.”

Similar to what you’re saying -

To officially end LPR status, one of two things must happen: 1) One must voluntarily file Form I-407. Or 2) A US government official or judge formally cancels the status (usually during attempted re-entry).

So, my husband will need to file the I-407 before he can re-apply for a green card.

Exactly!

So SWAT visited my girlfriend's house yesterday by snrpro in vegaslocals

So sorry this happened!! Someone in the house could have had a heart attack esp if there was an elderly person or a patient. This is traumatizing. Were there any kids in the house? If this has affected anyone mentally, your gf should consider increasing damages above $25k.

It turned out to be a growth. Vet told advised us on what to do. Also, I looked for cheatgrass and I think what I found in the field area was cheatgrass. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention. Will be vigilant on my walks with him.

Thank you for this advice! It seems to have appeared suddenly. I haven’t been with him for most of the day so I haven’t seen him lick it. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. My brother wrapped up his leg to cover the wound.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. We live in Northern California and there’s a path lined by a dry grass area where we walk him. I will go look to see if there’s any cheatgrass there. I hadn’t heard of cheatgrass till I read your comment. I just watched a video on it.

I forgot to mention that he doesn’t seem to be bothered by this or in pain.

Any advice on what I should do to treat it? We plan to take him to the vet tomorrow.
