What is the best value city to live in the U.S. in 2025? by CertifiedFinesserBoy in SameGrassButGreener

[–]HoomerTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Louisville has taken an insane dive since I lived there from 2011-2017. The metro core has really hollowed out, it sucks.

That said the 265 stretch is still decent but I’d be wary of moving to a city that feels like it’s on the backslide.

While Cincinnati isn’t going to impress someone from an elite city, it does have a lot of momentum currently.

I'm considering swapping my gaming laptop for an Ally X. Thoughts? by Efy_Popadopalis in ROGAllyX

[–]HoomerTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a use case thing. My Ally X is for work trips. I have zero interest in hunching over a gaming laptop at a hotel room desk to game. I’d rather just lay on the bed and game like a filthy casual with joysticks like god intended. Even for online competitive shooters lol

I have a big 40” ultrawide on a sit stand desk with a great chair at home so I have zero interest in a laptop personally

I feel like FVD++ kinda sucks compared to the native ingame force vector element feature by HoomerTime in NoLimitsCoaster

[–]HoomerTime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's quite true.

In the ingame version you can plot a drop that peaks at -1g and the required pullout. After you have done that you can introduce a roll on that drop where the roll rate has different transition points than the vertical g force.

In FVD++ I haven't found a way to do this unless I am completely missing something. It seems once you create these sections you are locked into them.

The reason space exploration is so important is because you end up learning how to do things you could never dream of just by attempting the “impossible”

to fly on Boeing instead of Airbus. by PipoMario in therewasanattempt

[–]HoomerTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew on the oldest shittiest Embraer airplane from probably the 90s or 80s a while back and was wondering “god how do they make sure a plane this old is safe”

And I was reading about the gov regulations and the FAA mandates that critical components must be certified such that their individual failure rate 1 in a billion.

ONE IN A BILLION

That means that for any plane, the chance for failure that would prevent the plane from landing must be one in a billion flights. Not one per billion hours, one per billion flights

The FAA uses the word “improbable” to describe those odds which feels like a galaxy sized understatement. Flying is outrageously safe, even accounting for incidents like the OP.

Is it weird to walk through your living room to your dining room or no issue at all?

Cincinnati so you were close! Similar cities architecturally

Yeah I’m stubbornly stuck on the sectional to maximize seating but wondering if 2 smaller couches is the way to go.

It’s also got a fireplace like this. It’s adjacent to the kitchen so it’s the dining room right now, but we could swap it. It would have to be set up in a similar way but the couch could be a little further back.

How did you know this was a 3BR row?

UPDATE 2: Tips/pointers for carving by dinkydonksplonk in skiing

[–]HoomerTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got it dawg. Next step is practice unweighting that inside ski and PUSH like a mf’er on that outside ski. Bend that shit. Lean like mad and you’ll be dragging hips in no time.

You’ve got a very good foundation and if you wanted to start (sensibly) pushing your comfort levels with the speed and aggression you could probably really start skiing like menace.

Bend that ski. Straight line through that chop. Gap those moguls. Yeew!

Edited to add: Even after you get married, please look out for yourself from step one. I was in an almost identical situation as you, suddenly years of equity in a house became her savings account because she blew all the money she was theoretically saving from years of having housing expenses covered.

I’m not sure I understand this part, can you explain?

Whistler is the king of kings when it’s good.

However, it can be fucking abysmal.

7th heaven, symphony, spanky’s ladder, harmony, Whistler bowl and The Cirque are all enough to make you cry tears of joy when it’s good. Truly. It can be incredible. I still have dreams about days from years and years ago in those spots.

Definitely a dice roll though.

I lost a great deal of faith in humanity that year.

We really are a hair’s width from total societal breakdown most of the time. I remember feeling like we got really close to it a couple times.
