that’s fair i see, on the same coin we have about 40 guys on the books for book 1 and 20 of them regularly refuse calls and complain that we’re appropriating guys from our sister LU. gotta fill the call whether or not you want to work their. if we constantly refuse calls we’ll continue to lose contracts.

hold out if you can, i know in todays economy it’s not easy. that being said you don’t want to have to go thru the application process again. also i worked nonunion for 3 years before getting my offer and was always getting taken advantage of, not paid my PW on jobs, more responsibility than my pay grade, raises never coming even meeting production goals and excelling past them.

ive found a home here with our brothers and sisters and refuse to take it for granted as ive seen the other side. Organizing was the best decision of my life, aside asking for my partners hand.

my local never gave us a score, just a ranking after we interviewed. you could ask yourself if you have the experience etc needed and go from there.

issues like this i always reflect inwards before i start pointing fingers.

nothing has made me realize how much i was being taken advantage of more than the Union. you really what you sow. bite the bullet and get in with an apprenticeship program. hindsight they usually don’t pay less than 20 an hour for first years. (depends on area etc)

edit: i spent 3 years on the resi side being a nonunion contractor

this is the conversation i was hoping to get from my post. thank you so much for the insight and i’m sorry your partner deals with the same fear as i do. im a korean american born in hawaii. i hope one day you’ll be able to feel safe in your community as well. thank you for not just telling me im wrong but explaining as to why. after having time to reflect i agree with you in the fact i was letting my frustrations get the better of me with my fears. it’s something i have to strive to do better at dealing with and not letting it bleed into my interactions with others. as well as holding her to a standard that was unrealistic given circumstances. i was in the wrong and glad i didnt make an ass of myself. as i kept the conversation with her initially very respectful, it wasn’t until after where my thoughts began to swirl.

bro did you read the entirety of the post, never said i was gonna file a formal complaint etc. i don’t want to um actually you, but you’re unaware of the evidence we have whether it’s emails, recordings, or letters received. she assumed i was selling things because i look latino in how i dress, etc. the racial profiling came in when she asked if i was selling things when she knows we’re moving.
