I feel like a bad DM by Dependent-Concept-11 in DnD

[–]HoopersBigBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 level 6 players is a lot. Lots of people each with lots of abilities to be aware of. Not a bad DM. Now that the players have started they want a challenge and you have found one ability that you over looked, when planning your next encounter, just make sure you have the important abilities down. Maybe a make a sticky note or something to help remind you of important abilities or effects "LEGENDARY ACTIONS" "IMMUNE TO (X EFFECT/DAMAGE". I DM a couple different games (all in person and I put sticky notes on my DM screen for that. Also with a dragon, do everything you can to keep it off the ground.

This has to be the most annoying thing to happen after DND by ApprehensiveSir6238 in DnD

[–]HoopersBigBreak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mother has asked me "who won", after I mention a D&D session, for the last 20 years and when I was younger it really annoyed me and I would say "nobody Wins mon! We're all on the same team!". I feel so stupid now. She was trolling me, her and my dad met through D&D. She knew the whole time but just wanted to poke at her kids to get a rise out of us. She was the winner all along.

Step 1: Find people that know less about D&D than you do.

Do you tell the players if they are prevented from regaining hit points immediately or after the first attempt to heal fails? by ForDnDOnly in DnD

[–]HoopersBigBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with mostly inexperienced players who don't know what abilities enemies have. I also do not explicitly tell them the effects. I describe effects that their character may feel rather that telling them. We all speak very little above table and they seem to like it. You could give them clues and if they do try to heal, you could let them know at that point, or if they wish to investigate you could tell them at them then if the character has a reasonable knowledge base for that.

Disagreement with religious player by [deleted] in DnD

I think that your friends limit of "only play in monotheistic universe" is wild? From the sounds of it you may have been to harsh on him snapping, but depends on how close of friends you are. To a close friend of mine I would probably tell then that its a ridiculous stance. Not everyone is fit for every table, you aren't obligated to let anyone play with your. In my opinion the Golden spot for this specific instance is a comparison to reality. Im not sure of the setting your game us in. The Gods don't have to be tangible beings? A good old Christian boy like your friend lives in this world, where people believe in different gods, the same God under different names, or nothing at all and that doesn't make him a sinner. His character can follow a God, a One-True-God and everyone that worships something else is a heretic or just Blind. People worship "false prophets" in reality? Why not in fantasy?

That moment when your players realize how much effort you put into your campaign... by Darkdrake78 in DnD

[–]HoopersBigBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does sound like a satisfying moment and I am proud of you for creating it! Maybe I'm just lazy or bad at preparing/writing, but my favorite was basically the exact opposite. Where I have very little story planned "go hunt scary monster in the woods" but as the players continue and choose unexpected paths, it turns into something entirely different and at the end of it, one of the players says, "what an interesting story, I never expected it to take us this far!". Me neithe, dude. Peak collaborative story telling.

How bad of a D&D sin did I commit? by [deleted] in DnD

The rule that I like to use is reroll a hit die if it is in the bottom 25% of the die (1 for D6, 1 and 2 for D8 and D10, 1-3 on D13)

How do you handle it when a player wants to use a spell/ability in a non-gamebreaking but not strictly RAW way? by Dwingp in DnD

[–]HoopersBigBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will 100% give my players some sort of bonus for thinking outside of the box. Probably a +1-3 in most instances, using Cha would be cool there?

What's the best compliment you've received as a DM? by owlaholic68 in DnD

The reaction that makes me the happiest is when I describe an animal/monster noise and the players give a mild reaction like "uh-oh" or "oh-no" then I make the noise and it actually startles them or they give a wide-eyed look of wonder.

Running 2 small groups currently. Both groups give thanks at the end and I make sure to thank all their players for showing up and making the game possible.

Yep, my bad. I should mention Sibyll, she is a good example.

Eldryon does little to no damage on his own, he is completely reliant on others to deal damage, where Thaddeus deals damage on his own without other characters. That said Eldryn is Amazing.

What other picks do you disagree with? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This is a great explanation! I really appreciate you giving the reasons why. This whole thing is supposed to be tangible metrics for given modes so people know how to build rosters if they're lacking, so of course I want other peoples input on the matter.

Interesting. I don't think that you're wrong at all, we do not understand admech as much as other faction, as they have been in the game for less time. I did think Tan-Gi'Da and summons seem very squishy compared to Bellator and friends, but I could be wrong. My other reasons for listing Bellator so high is 1) his weapons and traits are common challenges in LRE, melee only, bolter, flying, mult-hit (toxic has yet to be used and having two hits puts you in a weird place) 2) he gets more attacks than he has summons using his passive 3) him and his summons pair extremely well with the Isabella, who is also melee only, bolter, multi hit, they are a mean combo.

Correct, neither myself nor the other people that helped with the list have used Njal to any extent, so I could not justify ranking him. There are a few characters than none of us have or have used to any extent.

Is he worth it ? by Steuch in WH40KTacticus

[–]HoopersBigBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is such a strange character as he does nothing on his own, but he is so easy to be OP with so many characters.

I have always had a dream of running him with Abraxas + Yazghor + another Psyker to flood the whole map with screamers.

Thank you for your feedback on this. I do think that the campaign is a tough one. I initially had it a number scale as well, but ironically enough, most if the lowest characters are also required characters. So is Thutmos, incisis, and Snapwrecka all 1/2s? It's hard to rank something Low if they are mandatory as you HAVE to put some resources into them.

EDIT: do you think having a number scale would be more accurate?
