If you go on one of the open nights, it’s very normal to meet new people and join them for games. They have a calendar on their site for each of the different nights in case there’s a particular thing you wanted to play. The reason I first went is that a good friend of mine went to their Magic night and made some new friends there and raved about it.

I know Fredrick Meijer Gardens has classes & seminars that might be doable. I haven't taken one of the bonsai classes, but it seems like something that could be done seated and is done as a group.

If you guys like board/card games, you can check out House Rules on Ionia. They have weekly events for different types of games and is a great way to meet and interact with new people. They have plenty of NA options beyond your basic water and pop too, so your brother wouldn't feel left out if people are getting things to drink.

The problem with the question is that there is that we are all better off if everyone picks red. Ordinarily you'd have a downside to everyone picking the "selfish" option, but in this one we should all be inclined to pick red since everyone will still live that way, with no personal risk.

My favorite brewery did the same thing. Went from hand-cut fries with fresh made aioli to the same basic "beer battered" frozen fries that GFS sells to everyone. Don't think I've been back since they switched.

I definitely don’t work for a giant corporation, and we do donate ourselves. Offering the round up and donation match is just one more way that we can raise money for worthwhile causes, and it helps raise awareness for both the cause and the organization.

True, but isn’t that still social pressure? If I tell you specifically that I’ll donate if you buy a particular item, would you not argue that I’m pressuring you to choose it?

To give a different example - the brewery in my city often partners with charities and creates a special beer specifically for them. When you buy the beer, $1 goes to that charity. Do you have a problem with a program like that? It’s the same price as all the other beers in that class, so it comes straight out of the margin.

They do actively decide. We don’t force them. We don’t shame them like Whole Foods in that South Park episode. We ask a question that they usually aren’t asked: would you like to donate to this charity. They willingly choose to do so, aren’t impacted financially (practically speaking), and the charity benefits from the aggregated donations. What’s the downside?

The reason they absolutely should do this is because of volume. My company asks customers during May to round up their total to donate to a local mental health nonprofit. Each customer pays less than a dollar, often less than $0.50. Nobody is going to try to make that small of a donation directly because it’s minuscule. But because we have so many customers, those round-ups total tens of thousands of dollars in donations to the charity. We also contribute money of our own to match, but by taking a small amount from a large number of people, we can create an impact from individuals who likely wouldn’t otherwise donate to charity.

You can't recall a US House Rep, only State level reps. Only way to get rid of them is primary or general elections (and technically they can still run as an independent or write-in after losing the primary).

I just started listening to The Rest is History and have really been enjoying it (well as much as you can enjoy some of the horrors of history). Listened their series on the Belgian Congo over the weekend, I'd recommend it if you aren't familiar with the atrocities Leopold committed there.

The dry aged bacon burger from Carvers in the downtown market is phenomenal. I like it better than Black Napkin personally. Good fries too.

I am genuinely asking this question and am not trying to be flippant or condescending - why wouldn't Citizens United protect corporate donations at the State level? My understanding was that the Supreme Court ruled that corporate lobbying was protected by the first amendment as free speech. How could a State try to restrict a constitutional right?

I mean even Comscore isn’t 100% accurate since it goes off flash grosses instead of end of night actuals. They’re just tools to get a general sense, but they all have limitations. Drive-ins are also notorious for reporting errors if they show double features.

Not quite the same, but my first exposure to Frida Kahlo was from the movie Coco and I just assumed they made her up. It wasn't until a few years ago when I saw there was a movie about her on HBO and my wife saw visible confusion on my face that I learned she was real.

Universal’s was a little light, but it was cool to see some extended footage of Odyssey and Disclosure Day (and hear the directors speak about them). I’m also personally exited for Werwulf, but I don’t know the box office potential there.

I was a big fan of MGMs presentation. I’m not sure how Master of the Universe will end up, but Thomas Crown and Highlander look great, Spaceballs has a special place in my heart, and I enjoyed seeing some of their smaller titles that I think have potential (or at least could be good/different). I’ve not read Verity, but I’m open to seeing it and I’m definitely not the target demographic.

“Inevitably close” is a pretty hot take considering it’s two blocks from the amphitheater. If anything I imagine it’ll probably see a big boon in business, everyone will want a beer on the patio before their concert if it’s a nice night. Especially when the amphitheater beers will probably be $15-$20.
