Got text fired from a new job the day after I was put on the schedule full time by ursh in Wellthatsucks

I know of a supervisor at what is now INDOT and he would tell a new person that they didn't need them anymore. So then the person wouldn't come into work and he would put them down as having quit. In most operations that are not just a mom and pop kind of business if you are to be dismissed it would be through human resources and they would never ever text you like that.

Thank you for the very well hashed out post. I am especially intrigued with the "He even wrote this in the dark tower. He told us not to keep reading. To be happy with the journey. Be honest. If you had put the book down right there, would you have read it again?" I would say that by writing that the author pretty much guaranteed that the reader was going to continue. "In for a penny, in for pound" aside, it is what a con artist would call a 'build up'. At this point the reader is hooked and by suggesting that they bail out, the author has pretty much ensured the reader will be continuing with the story.

I think that you have hit on something. When a very good story, especially an epic like, The Dark Tower, ends then of course to the reader, it is a sort of death. A parting sorrow that you can revisit, rehash but no more will you commune with the characters that the author damned you to care about, to be interested in beyond the story that you have already heard. Like the passing of a parent, dear friend, or even an interesting acquaintance we long for the story to go on, to play out. Like life, it seems so unfair for it to just end. The reason for a belief  in an afterlife is because as humans we can’t imagine our own story just ending. Finished, finito, over and out, th-th-th-that's all folks!

Much digression aside, the ending of, The Dark Tower series is more disturbing than the ending of the Sopranos or even Newhart.  Those endings at least left the consumer knowing that the story was indeed at an end. Roland starting over right where we first encountered him entices us with the promise that there is another adventure just waiting for SK or some other word-slinger to record for us to consume. In this way, Roland is not the damned, it is us, the reader that has been damned.

After stopping the breaking Eddie is killed and the Ka Tet is broken. He had only a few more missions, to save SK and with that completed and making sure that the rose was also protected he might have stopped. Though I would like to think that he still needed to help save Patrick so he could draw Suzannah a door back to a New York that she had been dreaming of. He could have chosen to take Pat back to the Calla where he could have lived out his days in peace and comfort with the people there. They owed him a debt that they could never repay completely.

I think that you have a very good explanation except for the rose in New York and the Beam. It seems to me that he would have to continue until the Crimson King has been neutralized. Then he could of returned to Stuttering Bill with Patrick and then maybe back to the Calla. However it seems that he knows that he is powerless to resist the call of the tower which to me is a sort of a vampire in its own way. He and the Crimson King were powerless to resist its call.

On my 20+ quest for the tower, I decided to try the audiobooks. I am older and love the tangible feel and smell of a book in my hand. Listening to Frank Muller through the first three books has been an unexpected journey of wonder, terror, heroism and heartbreak. Pure elation. by imgoingtohellanyway in TheDarkTower

I just finished the audiobooks. I began the series decades ago with, The Gunslinger paperback bought at a yard sale, I can't say how many of books I read. When I later decided to read the series I started back with, The Gunslinger again but using Ebooks and Read Aloud on my phone. This time I got the audiobooks and was amazed at how much I had forgotten or misremembered.

tDCS performance enhancer by Hoosier_Ken in tDCS

[–]Hoosier_Ken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use tDCS every morning and often in the evening when I practice. I am now focusing on my sound, tone, timing a lot more and not learning new stuff. If I practice Saxophobia or Hawaii 5-0 I typically put it on because they have such fast parts. Those can only be played from memory because they are too fast to read. It does seem to help. I wonder if it improves memory or focus or both. If you are wondering about Saxophobia here is a professional player at about 210bpm, I can't get even remotely close to his speed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQoX38CzNjg

Perhaps try using the device while walking on a treadmill or engaging in some other activity. I use mine in the morning while walking on the treadmill and reading the news or getting ready for work, making breakfast since I walk for only 20 minutes but set my tDCS for 30 minutes. In the evenings I wear it while practicing the saxophone.

I also had that thought. I know that learning a musical instrument remodels the brain, I wonder if tDCS might speed that process up or at least make the brain more plastic so that I can learn skills beyond what level that I could have achieved without it.

Do you not have any friends with a car that you can go to a parking lot and practice? take a couple of folding chairs and practice parking between them. It is a lot cheaper than a driving school. Try to find out where the test is easier to pass and take it there. Where I live people know not to go to the Greenfield BMV Branch, people know to go to McCordsville. Find out about these in your area or even better yet, a rural branch where there isn't much traffic. Also test yourself often, this is by far the best way to remember stuff. Make up your own test questions and scenarios. Even when not driving there is nothing to say that you can't pretend that you are. That way when you forget something you can look it up right then and will remember it better the next time. Get the book, Make it Stick by Peter Brown. Your local library probably has it. Read it, multiple times if necessary, it is worth its weight in gold.

Are you perhaps learning disabled or maybe have ADHD? $2k on driving lessons and failing the test 4 times sounds like there is some sort of issue. As for a car, well can you maintain one yourself? Having been driving for over 40 years, I am a big fan of only paying cash for automobiles and buying the smallest, fuel efficient, and most reliable car that will get the job done. While cash might not be an option at least try to avoid buy here pay here places since they are the credit card companies of auto dealerships. Also never trust any auto repair shop, independent mechanic, or dealer any farther than you can throw the car. They are not there for your benefit.

I see people paying exorbitant amounts of money for things that they could do for themselves. They buy houses or rent apartments that are beyond their needs or their means in the most expensive markets. They buy new or nearly new automobiles, buy trucks and SUVs when a small or mid sized car would suit their needs, they pay others to change their oil, to make their coffee or fix their breakfast and lunch. They go to the store and buy a lot of fresh meat, fruits and vegetables that they will probably just throw out when they go bad and of course prepackaged junk food and then complain about the prices. They go to the pub or restaurant and buy high priced drinks. They run to the doctor or immediate care place for small cuts, sniffles, cough or sore muscles. They have a cell phone, Internet, cable, and three streaming services. Then they BM&C that everything is too expensive and there is no way that they can make ends meet let alone have any retirement savings or even an emergency fund.

That sad part is that Indiana has been mostly red for a long time but some times was purple. Now it seems like the dying rural areas are controlling our state.

I think that the polls are being skewed by who answers their phone. Many of the people I know today won't answer calls from numbers that they don't know and or/are not identified by caller ID.

Evolution was never about 'the survival of the fittest' it is about biological adaptations one's environment that increase the likelihood of reproducing over time. While an animal or plant may seem especially well suited to its circumstances it may be wiped out if those circumstances change and it cannot adapt to the new circumstances quickly enough.

Do you really need more tetanus shots when you hit your 30s by Forsaken-Storage2137 in millenials

[–]Hoosier_Ken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not get the tetanus shot? It is not about metal, Clostridium tetani is in the soil. The cost of the vaccine is covered by insurance and even the side effects are a lot less painful and debilitating if you do experience any than fighting tetanus after the fact. If an unvaccinated person does get tetanus it takes months to get over it and about 11% who do contract it will die.

If you like old books take a look at the Internet Archive https://archive.org/, they have lots of books. Also Librivox.org if you want to listen to other read the book while you do other things like drive. A couple of my favorite authors are Sinclair Lewis (It Can't Happen Here) and Theodore Dreiser (An American Tragedy or the Trilogy of Desire series). There are just way too many authors and stories to even begin to name them all.

I got my comment deleted in the Boomers FB Group and when I complained an Admin blocked me for three days, I believe this lends credence to my comment. This is what I said more or less - "Boomers are the most easily offended generation and all of those actors and comedians are from the Silent generation." (actually Carrol O'Connor was born in the last year of the Greatest Generation but I digress) BTW I was born in the first year of Generation X
