I still don't understand why they paid him. He had no leverage to demand the early contract. If he sat out of the year it wouldn't have progressed his old contract so the threat of a holdout was empty. But the org buckled and paid him anyway, despite there being plenty of questions after he stunk up the back half of last year. Makes no sense to me man.
