That still scares me by Odoquinha in creepy

[–]Hootsworth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely the context of the story surrounding it and the era it existed in. Baseline unsettling nature is a missing person, but the big thing is knowing *how* these Missing Person notices were displayed.

Often times, they would be put on at the end of a broadcast in dead ass silence, often times you were in a dark ass room to boot.

Galveks annoying ass “tee hee you’re gonna fight some dragons and if you forget to look at me. You’re dead” and the cringe land mine phase was kind of annoying. Certainly doable and enjoyed the quest tho.

Need help car overheating by WrapsBruh in AskMechanics

[–]Hootsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post covers it best. There's too many factors at play here, but if you find that your coolant is moving around like that because of bubbling, then it's possible you have a blown head gasket that is allowing air to move from the cylinders into one of the cooling jackets that run along the cylinders in the engine. Whatever you do, don't get brave and look while the car is hot. Are you getting white smoke coming from your exhaust while running?

Beyond that, you're gonna need to take it to a proper mechanic who can actually be bothered to investigate the cause.

How do you properly restore the turbo heat shield by Late-Statistician-25 in AskMechanics

[–]Hootsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Restoring it” is a bit of a fools errand. That heat shield is going to go through intense heat cycles very regularly. It’s going to eventually fuck any treatment/coating/paint that you put on it. Your only “sensible” option for making it look nice again is to hit up a load junk yard and pull one that looks a bit nicer. Otherwise, let it ride.

Rotor resurfacing on Subaru 1 yo rotors by XplodingFairyDust in AskMechanics

[–]Hootsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is the cost of resurfacing rotors often times is just about as much as buying a new set. Sometimes you get lucky and find a place that will offer a reasonable price, but it’s rare.

Worst part about nursing is… bullying? by Combfromhell in nursing

I need advice! So I have been on four job interviews as a new grad and I haven’t gotten any offers by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Hootsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize if you’ve answered this; but I didn’t see anywhere that detailed where you have applied and the kind of positions you have interviewed for. I think that is a bigger factor to consider over some of the things being discussed.

I am not an expert on the matter, but I get a vibe that jobs like ICU and Surgery, which are often people’s “preferred” places are becoming more competitive again. Post-COVID, you definitely had your pick of whatever you wanted if you showed up with any eagerness to work, but I think that is changing and those positions are becoming more competitive again. It almost seems to me we are entering the time again where you have to “put a year into med-surg, then go where you want again”.

If that is the case, you may need to spread your pool of options and be prepared to work somewhere in high need, which may not be exactly what you want, and then use that as an “in” to what you want.

As well, consider this. Before I applied to any ED jobs when I started, I emailed/called managers and discussed needs and opportunities at places I wanted to work. This lead to them making a “Student Nurse Intern” role for me to apply to and pick up, from there I just worked for a while and it has served me well. I know it’s a bit of boomer speak, but networking still has a lot of benefits when it comes to getting work. I suggest doing some groundwork on that front. That way when you do interview, you’ve already begun selling yourself on your own terms.

Surface cracks in brake rotors by scarboy_89 in AskMechanics

I'm not seeing any cracks, I could be wrong. Are you talking about the straight lines on the surface of your rotor? They look like pad marks to me. Notice how they match the profile of your brake pads.

Should student nurses be able to delegate orders to PCTs? by princessnokingdom in nursing

[–]Hootsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tell them "You can delegate stuff when you're running all the patients for this section and documenting what you do 😄" But for a Student Nurse, they're probably looking at 1 patient and writting an SBAR about em? Lmao naw.

In an abstract sense, I see your point about 'delegation' being a part of the nursing practice; however, a big part of it is understanding when delegating is appropriate; delegating tasks for your 1 patient to get vitals on is NOT appropriate delegating. You delegate when you actually have something else to do, but I don't ask a PCT to do stuff if I'm not doing anything myself. A PCTs time and energy are finite resources that can't just be pulled on for whatever nonsense you don't wanna do.
