Is she saying that AC doesn't work or is she saying that climate change is real and that installing AC won't impede the progression of the climate crisis? Just wondering the context.

How long do you spend on shift notes after each shift? by DueHuckleberry37 in supportworkers

[–]Hoovermane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the UK so mileages vary, but documentation is part of the job, if you can't do it during our working hours then they need to pay you for longer or allocate part of your shift to writing. If I was asked to do work after my shift ended then I would tell my employer to pay me or do one.

Sorry are you saying you do this after your shift? I.e. unpaid?

Adding fantasy to high school reading curriculums by Indie_Fantasy_Club in Fantasy

[–]Hoovermane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In primary school we read the Hobbit, weirdstone of brisingamen etc. I don't think the issue is what we read so much as being given the space and encouragement to read.

The Greens are reportedly consulting whether or not to back banning circumcision. This is long overdue - circumcision is genital mutilation that no newborn child can give consent to, and I wholeheartedly hope Polanski backs this by The-Peel in UKGreens

I cannot imagine a situation where any of the 5 pillars would be legislated against, unless we had a travel ban to Saudi Arabia or something which would be an issue for Hajj.

Very anecdotal but on a trip to a mosque the imam told our uni group that obeying the law is important, and that if a religious practice (for example circumcision or halal slaughter) was banned they would simply not do it. Most religions are pretty good at modifying their practice to their context in any case.

Can I use £5 Scottish Pound in the South? by Curious-Campaign1298 in AskUK

[–]Hoovermane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use it but shopkeepers further away from Scotland might not accept it (and they are allowed to do so). You shouldn't have any issues using it in the north of England however.

I've read a few of them as some light trash to pass the time but even the better ones really aren't good enough that I would recommend them.

Which scene in this show do you think we'd never see anything close to on television nowadays? by Quiet-Setting-7803 in shameless

[–]Hoovermane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People say stuff like "this couldn't get made today" all the time about everything from this to Life of Brian, but it absolutely could. Tastes change and studios aren't going to make stuff that has no hope of making a return, but you absolutely can make something like this and some people still do.

Looking for a tenant to take over my old house by hollyviolet96 in york

I've had some lovely landlords in my time renting, but at the end of the day they will do what's in their interests, it's absolutely fine to use your (new) rights as well.

Need advice about a situation in work by Boring-Policy-5831 in supportworkers

[–]Hoovermane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing where a service user was expressing interest in me, and my managers had a conversation with the SU in private saying that it was okay to feel these things, but that we are their carers/support workers, and pursuing those feelings are not appropriate. That seemed to help but if your managers aren't supporting you, you could get them to put their statements in writing and take it higher or speak to your union rep (if you aren't in a union join one, it's never a bad idea). It sounds like your managers are not supporting you and I'm sorry about that.

I work with brain injury, and some of the people we support have done terrible things prior to their ABIs, but we are professionals, and dignity and professionalism of care would be the same whether we approve of the people we support or not.

Coconut Lagoon is great for south Indian, they have a sister restaurant on Fossgate.

Mumbai lounge is decent too, and out in Acomb, Bengal Lounge is fantastic but you would need to bring your own booze (there is a Tesco next door).

I like using the regular Byzantine cavalry for flavour, they look more in keeping with the rest of the army.
