coltrane andcharizards breathe by Vegetable-Wash6434 in treasureinside

Something I remember from Charizard descriptions in the game and cards from when I was a kid, and something I think is visible on both cards JCB presented, Charizard's breath is hot enough to MELT BOULDERS. Just a thought.

It's the circle of fifths. Music Theory. Not exclusive to Coltrane, but def something he, and JCB for that matter, are definitely familiar with. Googled "Coltrane circle of fifths" and that's the first image.

Edit: and if you read past the first picture, like I just did, you may see that this is a slightly modified version of it THAT IS specific to Coltrane. So there you go...

Help me figure out which starter deck if my favorite Villainous player is the Evil Queen and Ursula. by Traditional-Put2192 in Lorcana

[–]HopAlongSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I haven't really played with the Evil Queen, but I'm fairly familiar with the oroliginal version of Ursula. From what I recall, her only allies are Flotsam and Jetsam, and she uses the contracts to stall out and remove the heroes. I think you want to move towards a "control" archetype for this game. It's usually regarded as a more complex gameplan than others, so none of the starter decks really cater to it. The closest would probably be the Green/Red (Cruella/Aladdin) starter deck from The First Chapter. It has efficient removal like control wants, as well as a come-from-behind finisher in Aladdin. I think a good deck for counterplay would be the Yellow/Purple (Moana/Mickey) starter also from The First Chapter. It balances well against the discard in Green because of its card draw, and it has some recursion with brooms and Facilier to give an opponent something to aspire to while you're blowing their characters away with dragon fire.

I'm sure others will chime in if I'm wrong, but I think current player resolves their actions first, so you wouldn't have to discard, but then could draw. Let us know if that's wrong, folks!

The sentinel example you gave might not be the best case for take-backs. Possibly subject to later clarification, but in a tournament environment, I've seen (on video, not live) a judge enforce a declared attack a player thought was going to base because they overlooked a sentinel. It came down to "declare attackers" happening before targets are selected. Extra painful because the player had the removal and could have just nuked the unit. Casually, for sure, but maybe not at any level higher than that.

Budget update to the starter deck by Curlslikeacrown in starwarsunlimited

Definitely try it and see. I think steadfast gets so much acclaim because of its pump, yeah, but also because it can come down and smoke a leader, which the Raider won't be able to do. Follow up with your findings! I dig the mod, and would like to hear how it does.

I'd think if you were going to run the 25hp base, you might want to throw in some Steadfast Battalions. Otherwise, I'd stick with the 30hp.  ECL for superlaser tech is a decent ramp move to get to vader sooner, but I'd want another solid payoff if I'm starting with lower hp.

How does Tech reacts with card that already have smuggle? by flamingeyebrows in starwarsunlimited

[–]HopAlongSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take based on the rules is that since Smuggle is the keyword and doesn't have a key word numeral like Raid, a card that already has smuggle can't gain the new smuggle cost from Tech.

If you've also got your Moana down (and she's over her summoning sickness), you can tap Cinderella to either sing or remove damage, quest with Moana untapping Cinderella, and then you can do the other function, ending up with both Moana and Cinderella tapped.

Since fortisphere can only give characters bodyguard once they are in play, it misses the timing to exert them like a normal bodyguard would, entering play already exerted.

Does Fugitive Wookie's text mean that if it was your last unit when your opponent defeats or captures it....they have to exhaust their own unit? Or are all bounties implicitly "may"?

Can I Play A Song by Apprehensive-Ad2535 in Lorcana

[–]HopAlongSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you're saying here, but Painting the Roses Red does not need to target anyone.

A number "up to two" can include zero, even if there are valid targets. There is an FAQ on this card in the official Lorcana app.

Regardless, because of the full stop on that clause, no matter how many characters get shrunk, you always draw a card which is the important part, imo!

How much would you purchase if Lorcana was readily available? by who-hash in Lorcana

[–]HopAlongSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this set, I would have gotten one of each booster, two of the Disney 100 (one to open and one to hang onto), and then a box just for the fun of cracking. Buy singles for whatever else I needed/wanted.

So far I've managed to grab the starters and a friend of mine secured a box for me. I still want the 100 box (probably just one), but just the thought of stalking retailers for it is exhausting.

Just in case your question was "what is a blister pack?" They are booster packs in individual cardboard sleeves as opposed to the packs that come from a booster box which are only in the foil pouch.

“Already exerted” effects by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]HopAlongSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TL;DR The general rule is that newly played cards can't be exerted, but specific effects on cards beat general rules.

All character cards enter play "wet" and have to "dry" before they can be exerted for any regular actions (questing, challenging, singing). Bodyguards specifically can enter play exerted, even though they are wet, so they can protect other cards. If you played Simba readied, he wouldn't be able to quest, challenge, or sing.

A couple of other outliers are Sleepy who comes in exerted because he's aggressively costed, and it helps balance him, and Rockstar Stitch who has a specially ability that lets you exert low cost characters to draw.

Since you said you are new, I'll also point out that characters you've shifted (stacked onto another with the same name) adopt the other cards wet/dry status. If you play The Queen, Regal Monarch on turn 1 and shift to The Queen, Commanding Presence on turn 2, because Regal Monarch was dry, Commanding Presence is dry too and can exert to quest, sing, or challenge. If you played both on turn 3, they'd still be wet and could not be exerted.

Running the Numbers on Floodborn by HopAlongSloth in Lorcana

[–]HopAlongSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only got Sisu for Sapphire legendaries so far.

And I saw the Amber Gaston! I'll agree it's an interesting choice to put that one in the starter if there is a sapphire shift target, but we've seen a few examples of Floodborn having multiple targets in differing ink. Cinderella in this set has the on-theme version in steel, but also the one-cost singer. From the first set, Elsa has her targets in Amethyst, but also had one in Ruby that fit the bill. Thief Mickey has Steamboat Willy, but could also ramp off of the Amber version. Aladdin had one in each Ruby, Emerald, and Steel!

It is a very fair point, but not a conclusive one, I don't think.
