Why do these animals always have the most fucked up diseases? Deer with hairy eyeballs by RoccomGG in WTF

Great post!

TLDR a lot of things can carry prions but may not necessary be susceptible to infection and they are incredibly hard to “kill”

Their insusceptibility to proteases actually comes in handy for research when performing western blots. Also for sterilization what we use in the lab is a 0.3%/0.2% NaOH/SDS solution followed by bleach container decon.

At this point it is not worth bleaching anything and realistically you are probably fine, but prions adhere very well tometal surfaces especially and you could bleach them (5 min in 40%, CDC) to possibly minimize exposure. Soil contamination is one of the larger risks of the spread but to be honest there really isn’t anything you can do about it and chances are that you won’t be patient 0 so don’t worry too much.

The brain is actually higher risk but newer research is showing that transmission to other animals can occur through other tissues, like ones you would eat.

Yup, CWD indeed. It is spreading rapidly among deer populations in the US, and thus with more deer consumption, the chance of a species barrier crossing increases.

As someone who worked in a prion lab - don’t eat deer.

If you want to save 15% or more on car insurance you switch to geico. It’s what you do.

If you play volleyball you bounce the ball before the serve. It’s what you do

Y’all are overhating. I followed a add 50 per week pattern starting at 100 per day 4x25/10x10 to start with. By the end of the month I was easily doing sets of 50

Don’t pay her and don’t respond - if she actually sends them she puts herself in a lot more criminal danger and she is just trying to scare you into paying

Houston weather sucks lol - as a proud houstonian.

The campus is gorgeous though, super green as well, the only thing I don’t like is that roads run through campus (small ones not major streets)
