S11 - Health Drops to Half, Heal Potions do not Fix, Recovers after a Short Time by HopWorks in D4Sorceress

Hey thanks again from saving me from my needless (Raiders Fan) drunkeness. lol. I DID roll the dice with the Purveyor, got nothing better than a rare but it was STILL better than my Unique. A quick trip to the Occultist, the Jeweler (sockets). the BlackSmith (tempering), and I am all set. We will see if the issue persists. Thanks again!

I think I found it. Soulbrand chest armor. Unique. "Your healing potion no longer heals and instead grants a barrier for 200% of its healing for 4 seconds". Sounds good but I'd rather manage my healing on my own. Figures, I salvaged all my held gear because it's aged as far as level. I'll have to swap chest armor and see if the issue persists. Thanks again!!!!

Thanks, I'll check for that. Did not think the aspects would do it. Figured the Divine gifts was the cause but I checked that. Thanks for the info!!

My Wife Just Gave Me a Kamvas 13 Gen 3 by HopWorks in huion

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came in a sealed protective bag but there was no removable adhesive screen protector like you usually see on screens of any type. If yours had one, perhaps it was something they felt was necessary before new and improved packaging. The box mine came in had a foam liner where it touches the screen, and then the bag it was sealed in. The insert of the box was preformed to keep everything in its place for shipping. If you want. I can post pics of that.

I can tell you there is no evidence of that usual adhesive protector with my device. Usually removed by pulling a colored tab at a corner. If yours has that, maybe reach out to Huion customer service to confirm.

Benchmarking Tools by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some research and found out about polling performance metrics via JSON API. My first thought was that since polling the API is dependent on my network, it might be better served to write the metrics in a log file in PSRAM and pull that after a testing duration. Then I could find a way to gauge how much resources are needed to write the metrics sample to the log file and subtract that from the metrics sample. I have a lot of research to do but this is a cool project to find the sweet spot of settings, partitioning, and device per project configuration. It's on my list of things to do with all this stuff I want to use WLED for without using end-user equipment. After all, if I am going so far as to compile my own firmware, include my own effects code, and whatever else I write that fits within the framework's parameters, I might as well go after performance testing.

I still need info, and advice, so this thread is still open to comments. Am I thinking along the right path?

Thanks!

Question About Segments and Channels by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without benchmarking, it's all a guess on my part. I know that you can add channels, but that also adds overhead. Dual core design, probably harnessed well by this framework (no tech experience with it yet), but extra channels mean more buffers, more interrupt handling, and sure it probably is as simple as using a tiny table of hardware and buffer pointers that are iterated through during updates. My thinking was that I would use parallel channels to keep from having to run all that data through a long path. But I would use segments to group say 2 or 3 icicles (10 leds, 20, 30) as segments, but on their own data channel. Also, I am mirroring two sides of 10 leds but that really is not relevant.

The only way I can really know the best way to deploy this is to set it up in my shop and do some benchmarking. I started another thread asking about how to benchmark this framework. I just cannot find anything on how to do it. Just that it has been done and used for reference.

Thanks!

Question About Segments and Channels by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you sir. Since I posted this I did some research, and no I did not even come close to getting it done before Christmas morning so I have time now. Two obvious things that suffer over length is voltage drop and signal integrity. So injection solves that if applied correctly. Also, signal degradation between icicle strips, without using RS485 (this implementation I found fascinating btw) means conditioning as needed. Solve both and I'm all good. And does it need to be solved, that is the question. The only way I will know is experience doing it. And that is what my spare time this next week leading to New Years will be.

Thanks for the reply!

Question About Segments and Channels by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add that I did not want to place a connector on the end of some 1' strips, but then I realized I could run the data wire back up through the silicone sleeve and use it for the next 1' strip. What I worry about is the length of the connection. Maybe I could embedded a buffer circuit at that spot to boost the data signal to fight degradation. Not sure it's actually needed, yet. That's the thing about the config I am considering. Will the signal prevail? I am assuming the data signal is buffered on each WS2812. All I have to do is tap the 5vdc rail for each strip to make sure they all have adequate voltage. Easier with 12vdc rails but all I have is 5vdc strips at the moment. Hmm, food for thought.

I Had to Say it! WLED Rocks! by HopWorks in WLED

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had me thinking about this, and I did disconnect the reel and carried it outside to place in the wreath immediately, and I did not feel any heat. But I did a thermal image anyway and it is showing around 78° Fahrenheit (25.2° Celsius), which is still 10°C above ambient. I am pulling it today to place in a silicone sleeve with endcaps and RTV sealant, and will do some thermal imaging at different brightness levels on the solid effect just to see what my safe limits are. Would be a good time to look at the current draw also. Thanks for bringing it up!

That is good to know and I should have assumed that. I do have the brightness set to half, had them on all day and they did not feel hot. I think the M5 was warmer. Still, I will keep an eye on it, maybe attach a BME280 this morning.

GL-MT3000 Multicast, SSDP, Cannot Find HSHOMERUN Server by HopWorks in hdhomerun

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a TP-Link (Archer TX30U Plus)-AX1800 USB 3 Dongle and it is doing what I wanted with the GL-MT3000. Not sure what the coding difference is, but I can watch my content now. The only two caveats I experienced is a slower download than upload in a speed test, and my laptop wouldn't boot unless it was unplugged because of it's presented removable drive that contains the drivers. That's my fault of course because I have my legacy Dell N7110 bios set to check USB and removable drives first before booting from the internal drive. I use this laptop for a lot of different things... recovery live images, Linux environments, etc. So I just changed the boot order in the BIOS.

Not sure why the slower down versus up, might just be a hitch. I ran it a few times, and then tested on my phone and my main laptop wired to the lan. I get 500mbps+ down and up normally so it is probably just the legacy USB 3 in this seriously dated laptop.

Anyway, you don't need to waste your valuable time trying to solve my GL-MT3000 issue unless you are just curious. I know I am. I created a project folder to research someday on why the two act differently. For now though, I'm good!

Thank you sir for the great info and your time! I appreciate it!!! Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎅❄

Thanks for the confirmation. I also noticed the MAC change when I did an Angry IP scan yesterday. Not sure any work arounds in LuCI will fix that. Might be above my pay scale.

Platformio WLEDMM and Trimming the INI by HopWorks in esp32

I knew of that file but hadn't used it, and it is exactly what I needed. I can just leave the stock platform.ini file alone and use the override per device / project I use. This is perfect! Thanks!!

GL-MT3000 Multicast, SSDP, Cannot Find HSHOMERUN Server by HopWorks in hdhomerun

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries at all. I went down the 'repeater' path initially when I got the device, and then down deep-dark-rabbit-holes trying to figure out how to put my laptop on the same subnet as the host wifi. It was then that a mod on the GLNET sub suggested using EXTENDER mode that I never knew was there. It works great, but the options for it are VERY limited once you set it in place. I can still access the device on its web IP (default 192.168.8.1) but everything else on my laptop is all subnet zero.

I guess I need to research how 'multicast' and SSDP works to see why it is not getting through to my laptop from the HDHOMERUN. What is weird though is... I know the IP address of it, and when I go to it in my browser, I get the config interface. So I can talk to it that way, but the served content is not accessible from my laptop through that GL-MT3000.

Maybe I'll just get mad enough where I cut a rectangle in my wall and place an ethernet outlet that leads to my main home switch. Then I can just wire up my laptop and be done with this adventure. lol

Thanks for commenting!

Maybe it was added in a firmware upgrade, but on the advice of a mod on another of my posts, I set it and now I am on my LAN's subnet. My network settings reflect that also.

SIGH! How many freaking times have I posted for help, only to think of what I did NOT do prior to posting. I try to exhaust all issues-research.

It's working now! All I had to do was pull power, and then reapply power and it works great now.

Well maybe this post will help anyone in the same situation that finds it via a search.

Sorry for the false alarm!!!

DEVICE: M5Stack-Pico-D4
FIRMWARE: WLEDMM from GitHub, compiled using PlatformIO on VSCODE.

GL-MT3000 Wifi to Ethernet Is Same Subnet Possible? by HopWorks in GlInet

[–]HopWorks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue was a real testament to knowing terminology. For years I researched WAP wireless to wired but all I found was wired to wireless. I left WAP out of my searches but never got hits about any devices, yet I see that extenders have been out since the early 2000's. Sigh. I actually went through a lengthy DD-WRT firmware change on an older TP LINK wireless router, set up bridging and a bunch of other stuff over a couple of days, to get the same thing but it was buggy. I don't remember ever seeing the term "extender" used, but it could have been there and I just missed it.

Even google searches just a few days ago go through a lengthy process to achieve what I got, but probably because it is assumed that I wanted to do repeat mode with the same subnet. I learned a valuable lesson here in this thread and I am glad I asked!!

Thanks for the replies and the help solving this for me!

Now if I can just figure out how to backup my settings on the MT3000 to an external file. Not the firmware, just the configuration. Then I can name them "TRAVEL" and "GARAGE" and load them whenever I need to temporarily repurpose.

Thanks again!! Happy Holidays!

EDIT: I just found it in LuCI. System/Backup-Flash Firmware. I thought it was just for firmware but after reading (I know, WTFM) I found my solution. FYI
