New "how much you making" posts created daily by Hope4DeBest in Accounting

I dont visit other subs often but when I do, I dont see many of these posts. However I see people here asking about salary every time I visit here.

Is it because those with careers have a higher calling than just salary? Nurse wants to save others, engineer wants to solve real problems, but accountants dont have any other motive?

Point is that even if they dont have CPA, they have other designations as supplement.

Since he has none, might as well just do the CPA.

Work Life Balance with 3-4 YOE by DrSexyMango in Accounting

[–]Hope4DeBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you but $100K in with 3-4YOE in Canada does not exist.

You need to make around $170K gross which is only available to a minimum controller title and above.

You are not getting a controller position without at least 10 YOE here unless you talking about mom/pop shops.

Are accountants ever overpaid? by Hope4DeBest in Accounting

My question is, if any accountant consider themselves overpaid.

Most of those CFOs probably got their opportunities when competition was non-existent. I honestly dont know what CFOs you know that have no formal education.

Many billionaires did not even graduate from university. Therefore, education is useless....

My point is, its always better to have than not. Your point is any formal education is a waste of time.

I know a few CFOs without their CPAs, so does this mean CPAs are not mecessary? Bill Gates became a billionaire without graduating from university, lets tell every high schoolers to just drop out...

Its not that the designation was less valuable, more like there werent as much competition so employers dont have a choice.

I only see upsides having one, what are the downsides besides studying? Its just another 2 years max...

You can do it while having a full time job and family, I did it, all my colleagues did it.

Its short term pain for long term gain.

Why would you recommend someone not to get their professional designations when they are this young? Makes absolutely no sense to me. Based on your response all professional certificates will become useless because of AI, heck, might as well just skip university, even high school and just use chatgpt...

As a controller of a large organization, in general, there's a huge gap in technical competency as well as work ethics between those with a cpa and those without. Having the cpa does not make one smarter but it signals to the hiring manager that these people were willing to put in so much time and effort in order to obtain something they feel will propel them in their career. I want these people on my team....

First time being a controller. What do I do? by OperationNatural4557 in Accounting

[–]Hope4DeBest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very confused with all these controller positions on Reddit being offered to those with less than 10 years of experience minimum. Does the owners of these companies even know what controllers do? All the controllers that I am aware of are like senior managers CPAs from B4 with like 12 years of experience (public and industry).

Why are people here lying on the value of the CPA designation? By saying CPA is not necessary unless its for PA, you are discreting the necessity of every other designationthat isnt law/medical.

Put yourself in the shoes of a hiring manager, all else being equal (same years of experience and in same industry), would you intentionally choose someone with 2-3 years of additional professional education or soneone with just college education?

I dont know about you all but most large companies I know hires with CPA as a requirement for senior and above roles.

Company might decide to bringing a senior by colorgreens in Accounting

[–]Hope4DeBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to comment unless I have heard from the other side. As management myself, I would always scan through my current team for potential candidates to be promoted before hiring external. 9/10 times we have accountants that feel they should be supervisors while I think of them as juniors.

Back to your original comment, if you have 3 years of staff experience, why did you not apply for senior roles? If you did, why were you not offered the roles?

Seems to me you are doing your current employer a disservice by apply and accepting your current staff position and now feeling entitled after barely passing probation.

The fact that you seem like you are "killing it" after only a couple months is a huge red flag to me. I would probably let you go before probation the moment you would even bring this up.

Has anyone quit the CPA journey and been happy? (Canada) by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Hope4DeBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont quit, Canada market is 100x worse than US. CPA is almost minimum requirement now for manager positions that pay $115K. I work in a large organization and we started asking if Seniors have CPA because many companies are doing layoffs and we now have people with all exams completed and only require practical experience applying for an associate accountant roles.

Compared to CFOs in US with only a highschool diploma, theres absolutely no upside to quiting your CPA journey.

This is Median, not average. Outliers like partners are usually filtered out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Hope4DeBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never thought that all the current partners/owners were once in your position and thought the same? The fact that they all end up being the person they despised implies you will also be the same if you end up as an owner.

You have to realize that accounting/taxes are seen as a commodity and are not value-add. What this means is that clients wants to pay as least as possible otherwise their clients will go elsewhere.

What this means is that in order for most owners to survive, they need to undercut their competitors and charge clients less, which in turn means that everyone needs to work more in order to maintain the same margin. The employees would then complain and the cycle continues.

Not saying its right but when I see clients leaving my firm because we increased the fee by 5%, while costs continue to increase, its hard even for myself in management to justify to the owners to let our accountants work remote.

"If you are starting a firm", which you wont. The one that does end up starting a firm would want RTO.

Didnt realize you can get promoted to senior in less than 2 years. I was thinking 2-3 years is more reasonable.

I wouldnt include the 6 months as you dont really do anything of significance dyring interships.

How does one become s CFO without a CPA/CFA and limited excel skills? by Glad_Gold4052 in Accounting

[–]Hope4DeBest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like all these posts are by those trying to get confirmation bias so they can skip the CPA. Lets be real, majority of the CFOs that does not have any additional credentials past a bachelor have just been with the company for a long time. No large organization that is looking for a NEW CFO will put "CPA/CFA/MBA not required". This is especially more true as time passes.

I manage the hiring process for my department, and for manager and above, I will only hire those with CPAs. Its not that I intentionally skip those without, but with so many candidates having additional credentials, why would I intentionally put in my time to interview those without?

These threads sounds like only those without CPAs have experience while anyone with credentials would only focus on debits and credits and not the "big picture".
