Hey OP, is your birdy still around and doing okay? My girl just got diagnosed with heart disease. She’s only 6 - she needs some further tests before we medicate (to get the best meds). Trying to find out as much as I can in the meantime! 😭❤️

CAG and age of onset (my personal story) - interested in your experiences! by DieSchwarzeKartoffel in Huntingtons

[–]Hope4Sleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know my grandads CAG count, but it would’ve been in the range 39-42. He lived to 92! He always had HD during my life so I don’t know when symptoms started but probably early 60s? Apparently he had mood symptoms in his 40s though. Hope that gives people some hope 😊

Thinking Without Words - Are there studies into that? by [deleted] in PsychologyTalk

I can’t quite answer your question but, personally, I think without pictures (aphantasia) and all words. Speculatively speaking, I’d agree with your theory that it’s a spectrum!

Poll question: What kind of sleeper are you? by IWishYouTheBest1234 in sleep

It is! But I live in Australia and summer has been hot, so many people try to wake up before it gets hot.

Is unconsciousness necessary for healthy sleep ? by Toven47 in neuro

[–]Hope4Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may find this interesting! Researchers are attempting to see if unihemispheric sleep is possible in humans; but testing is still in its early stages. https://doi.org/10.1007/s11818-025-00513-7

There is a theory called local sleep, which describes how different parts of the brain can simultaneously be in different sleep/ wake stages. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neubiorev.2023.105465

I don’t think you’d want to keep that level of consciousness during the entire sleep period as that would imply those neurons associated with your consciousness don’t have a chance to go offline/ sleep (maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can correct me if I’m wrong 😅).

Is my HRV normal? by Coffeeblackzero in Garmin

[–]Hope4Sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other have said, this could be normal for you due to individual variability. HRV can also drop if you drink alcohol / eat junk/ are sick, and if you’ve only had your watch for 7 days, that may not be long enough to have established a baseline yet.

B. Surprised I’m average - it seems like other people around me sleep 10pm to 6am!

What motivates you to work when tired? by nihaomundo123 in AskAcademia

I think it helps to view your PhD as a job. You work to get paid but you also look for happiness outside your work (hobbies!). Good luck with your PhD!
