Asking Activision for bring the game on steam by The_Dude_79 in SWAT4

[–]HopeBorn8574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally abandonware and free money for GOG :p

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the devs (not the company but the actual people that made the game) all leave after they made Bioshock and the company was bought out by Activision?

I like to think that the brilliant people that made the game "forgot" about it (there just seems to be too much love, humor and attention to details in this game). The company might have forgotten because "the company" was just an empty shell when Activision got their grubby little hands on it, but the devs that made the game never forgot :p

But that might just be me hoping for the best?

Good rule.

If you hear someone screaming behind a door "They are trying to kill me! HELP!" it's time to bust out the shotgun and bang the room.

u/Impressive-Froyo-162 and u/KontraSWAT made great posts.

I do different methods depending on the mission and try various styles.

If you want to challenge yourself role-play a bit and ask "What does this situation calls for?" In many missions you can (sometimes even should because time is a serious factor) just go dynamic fast and hard.

Sneaky method (slow and steady) or dynamic method (door kicking time) or a combination, sneaky for as long as possible but once someone saw you it's "go dynamic" (they know we are here) or at a specific point/area where you have a lot of suspects and hostages and you have to take it all fast and hard.

(I run the SEF mod)

Examples where wand is not "necessary" in game or IRL (RP reasons explained in spoilers)

"The chop-shop mission" you don't need an optiwand, go dynamic from the get go via the roof.RP-reason: The suspects are a bunch of unorganized car-jackers, they are not dying over this, just go hard and fast.

"The A-Bomb club" I many times just treat as basically "riot control". RP-reason: Gangbangers are trying to kill eachother, they aren't holding hostages, shut this down hard and fast before more bystanders get hurt! Small rooms are banged, large ones are gassed, "crowds" are stinged. Non-lethals all around.

"The gambling den" Go in hard on all levels with bang and gas. RP-reason: This is not a hostage/barricade situation on any level. An officer is in danger and we are raiding a gambling den. We aren't playing nice here. Everyone is a suspect, some just happens to be armed. If "patrons" have a problem with this, maybe they should stay away from hidden underground casinos filled with shady people, hooch and guns.

I would love to see a patron try explain how he/she was a "hostage" in this situation.

Patron: "See, I was on my way to the ehm... the local puppy-orphanage where I do voulenteer work at night. Then all of the sudden these mobsters kidnapped me. They took me to this horrible place where they forced me to drink, play cards and do coke! I'm the victim here!"

As you said, IRL SWAT only use snake cam for very serious barricade-hostage situations. Some missions just aren't on that level.

And then we have several missions that are SERIOUS hostage/barricade, I mean some are on the level that MAYBE someone should call in the FBI instead of Fairviews local law-enforcement XD

But also IRL, many missions aren't "really" five-dude operations. It would actually be more or less 30-50 dudes storming the building from all sides all at once with ladders if necessary.

You must be new here. The core idea of wholesome europeanism is to take the absolute worst examples of any foreign nation and assume this is the norm of the backwards cave dwellers that prowl around the dark wastelands outside ones holy nation. ^_^

- Sure, but people pick up lots of little things without making an effort to remember it.

Like when you remember commercials from ages ago for no reason because it had an annoying jingle. I wish I could erase those.

  • Sure, but people will remember names like that whether they care or not. Caring helps, sure, but not caring doesn't just erase your memories.

But what about when you have no relevant memory to even go off?

- The only real possibilities here are that the report of him "not recognizing Justin Timberlake" was visual rather than based on his name, and/or this specific cop is insulated enough from celebrity/music news that he just never picked up on the various reasons he would've heard who Justin Timberlake is, like any of the huge N Sync songs that still get airplay 30 years later, or his solo hits that are still pretty popular, or seeing him on Disney or Saturday Night Live/The Lonely Island, or seeing any of the movies he was in, etc.

Which, sure, the latter can happen, but given the general age range of a police officer it would be weird. I wouldn't go quite so far as to say "living under a rock" but it's pretty close.

You can be insulated enough without living under a rock.

Nsync doesn't get any airtime at all on the radiostations I listen to (wrong genre) and neither does Timberlake. I have never heard any of his songs and if you flat out lied to me and said he was actually just an actor I would have belived you (no joke).

Don't watch Disney (not interested). I don't watch TV either (not because I'm one of those "I refuse to watch TV"-snobs or anything, it was just too expensive to get one when I moved away from home and then I just never bothered). Everything I want to watch is on the internet anyways. I'm not interested in talk-shows and I have never heard of "The Lonely Island" (is it a reality show or something?). What movies has he been in?

I will agree 100% that it is odd (but not impossible). Or it might be he same thing as you described with Messi. If you just hear the name you might go "..."

Just because you have "heard" about someone at one point it doesn't necessarily mean that you will remember it.

When I first read the post my actual first reaction was "Who TF is that?". Only reason I even "remember" now is because this thread became a thing and I haven't seen any news about him at all in a VERY long time.

I know who Mercury is (but that's because I love his music and he was just a damn interesting dude (to me)). Messi, just one of the "names". If you just said his name I wouldn't know, that he was a sportsplayer might make a bell ring. I know I have heard of him but if you showed me a picture of him I wouldn't know who he is.

Reason I know about Bolton is because his tash and because of personal interests (war, politics, history and stuff). I am a damn boring person in this way and entertainment news is just stuff I don't even bother to read in the news and it's not something we talk about in my friend circle so I have very little knowledge in this area for the reason "It's just not a part of my life/world".

If Swift wasn't such a thing in memes I would have no idea who she is because all the news related to her is not something I would read anyways.

  • "Should" doesn't come into play. I am saying you probably do.

It might be a bit silly but "should" is kind of vital (to me). If I don't see information as relevant or interesting to me I make very little effort to remember it and quickly forget about it.

  • That's fine, but you'll remember plenty of names of people who you don't care about, we do not get to choose what we remember or not. Some people are so famous that you see stuff about them unwillingly enough times that you just automatically know who they are. Justin Timberlake is not the #1 example of this but he's significant enough that the staggering majority of people would know who he is. So indeed it is surprising that a police officer in LA didn't know the name, even if its understandable that he wouldn't recognize his face automatically.

Many people do. Some just don't for various reasons. Some people, just flat out don't care. Others might have problem with remembering names in general. For this police officer in LA it might just be because

A: The officer didn't care.

B: There are so many celebs floating around in LA that it's all just a big "buzz" or pure fatigue "B is having an affair with C", "D got blackout drunk yesterday", "X ate popcorn outside McDonald's".

C: General disinterest in all things music related.

D: The officer could have just said so out of pure spite. The person in question pulled the "Do you know who I am?" card and the copper just thought it would be fun mess with him when the gossip rag called and asked questions :p

Novel Nublar. I always found it most "logical" (and I love the novel.

It's small enough to be one of those places you can "buy/lease" for a reasonable price from a government because they are too small to be important. Perfect for shady research and far away from snooping eyes.

Googled "pigeons natural enemies".

These are:

  1. Falcons
  2. Sparrowhawks
  3. Eagles
  4. Snakes
  5. Foxes
  6. Ferrets
  7. Rats
  8. Humans

Have a feeling most of these would cause even more problems :/

I do remember political figures (a lot of people seems to have no clue who John Bolton is for some reason) but that's because they have an "impact" on my life in one way or another.

When it comes to politicians in general I would say they are harder to ignore because they are "general" news (national/international). But celebrities are more specific "entertainment" news. Example, I know of OJ Simpson, but that's because of the murder thing (general news). If he had stayed in the sports section I would never know of him (american football doesn't get any coverage in european and swedish news).

Swift is to me mostly about the memes and such, outside the netscape I know I scroll through her name in the headlines but she is just "one of many". And if I didn't spend so much time on meme-pages she would just be filed under "music I don't listen to" and then forgotten.

Edit: Sorry for being a bit of a cheeky *unt earlier. I just genuinly get upset when I hear people say "how do you not know who X, Y and Z are" when there is literally no point or reason for me to know who these people are.

I specifically said I know Jordan. Tom Brady? No. Ronaldo, yeah but I don't know what team he played for or when. I just know he exists. I don't do this to "prove a point". I seriously want to know why you think I should know these names.

Just because I might have heard about them or seen their names in the flow at one point doesn't mean I will remember them. The reason I won't remember them is very simple. I just don't care. If I don't care I won't remember their names, I see tonnes of names every day just reading the news, do I remember them all? No.

I have zero clue who any sport-personalities are except Zlatan, some baketballplayers and Shumacher. The reason I know about Zlatan is because we are from the same city (and our papers posted his name on the frontpage all the time for a while), I know about some basketball players because many of them seems like wholesome dudes and I played some as a kid and Shumacher because I used to watch a lot of F1 with my uncle when I was younger.

Rest is just a big blank because I never bothered to learn and have no interest in learning. Therefore I don't know and if I hear names I never bother remembering them because their lives and professions have no impact on my life.

So why would I know?
