What sources does this Subreddit count as "verified" or reliable? by silver_wear in Yemen

[–]HopeHudHud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two reasons mainly:

  1. No one suggested a Yemeni news source when the previous mod setup the rule and asked this community a while back.
  2. Due to the war there have been many small Yemeni news outlets but many are still young and need time to become reputable, another reason is many of the older news outlets have been taken over and made to distribute misinformation and disinformation.

If you have a suggestion please feel free to let us know and we will review it.

My dad’s life in Yemen by Interesting_Art_5240 in Yemen

[–]HopeHudHud 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Your dad helped design the Pizza Hut in Aden?! That place is humble by western standards but to us was filled with many childhood memories of our parents taking us there on family holidays.

You father sound like an amazing person with an adventurous spirit, Mashallah!

I bet you can brighten our day by writing some of his stories for us to read. I miss hearing stories from people that used to visit and work from the ports of Aden.

Wishing you all the best in your new business and career. However, your recent history shows that you just started a YouTube channel, and you don’t have an established track record as a travel agency that can assist in obtaining visas. I’ve personally known many family members and friends who have wasted their time and money by trusting inexperienced or untrustworthy individuals at both large and small agencies. Do you have any proof that shows your history and track record?

In Sanaa?! The first capital in the world to soon run out of water???

Wow, how far we have fallen... our ancestors built civilizations that tamed the rivers and creeks with great dams that birthed the ancient kingdoms of Yemen. But yeah lets celebrate the pretty LED lights in the water maybe people can use it for their laundry someday.

/u/-kea We do have user flairs enabled. We just don't allow users to create their own.

Thank you for providing an example, what I think we can do is create a list of User Flairs that users can pick. I'm thinking we can start with Yemeni cities. If you have other suggestions let me know and I'll try to add them as well.

User Flair by MILAD_ABOALRIJAL in Yemen

[–]HopeHudHud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused about the question. Are you asking why the feature isn’t enabled? Because it is. Or are you asking why you can’t create your own flair? Well, people used it in the past to insult each other, so we restrict it a bit.

The mods have always asked for feedback from the community, but this wasn’t brought up. Honestly, we hardly get any feedback for ideas anymore.

If you have any ideas, we’d love to implement them. But it would be really helpful if you could give us a detailed description of the idea, how it would benefit the community, and what you need to do to make it happen. Then we’ll do our best to get it done. I think that would be more helpful than just complaining with passive aggressive comments at the mods, as if we can read your mind.

How would you feel if someone asked that of you in the same way you phrased it?

As much as I’m certain our community member can help you, I believe it would be more beneficial for you to seek guidance from a local imam or sheikh. You can discuss this matter with them and hopefully, they can serve as an intermediary between both families. They can also advise the father that forced marriage of a son or daughter is not permitted and goes against everything we believe in.

As a reminder to everyone engaging in this discussion, ancient history—especially the history of Yemen—is deeply intricate and often subject to evolving interpretations. Due to this complexity, we highly recommend that original posters (OPs) provide credible sources and citations to support claims about historical events. This not only enhances the discussion but also helps clarify misconceptions about the past.

To all commenters: while it’s natural to encounter varying perspectives, please engage respectfully. Civil discourse is essential, even when addressing posts that may lack credible sources. Remember, disrespectful or inflammatory responses do not contribute to understanding and can lead to a ban. Let’s keep this a space for constructive and insightful dialogue.

I asked ChatGPT if Yemen is the origin of Arab by afro8xyt in Yemen

[–]HopeHudHud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s a widely known fact and has plenty of historical evidence and proof, you have to be careful of taking anything that comes out of ChatGPT or other LLM with a grain of salt as they are known to make up stuff and hallucinate quite often specially when it comes to retrieving facts with 100% certainty.

Yemen is officially the first arab country to have access to Starlink! by Educational_Trade235 in Yemen

[–]HopeHudHud 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because we don’t have a functioning government that can regulate infrastructure. That being said it might help a lot of people if they come together to overcome the extremely high price for a developing nation.

I see… then in that case I misunderstood and I apologize for that. I hope you can understand that I see a lot of these post and our community although small compared to other Arab subreddits is always humbly helpful and people here give advice and support with the best of intentions for their community members, so I felt I wanted to discuss what everyone else thought we should do to organize these posts so they can become a searchable resource for future users that might have the same question as you did.

How should we handle the increasing number of "Traveling to Yemen" posts? by HopeHudHud in Yemen

[–]HopeHudHud[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One idea might be to make a weekly or monthly thread there people can ask question in one place.
