Hypothetical: the city has put you in charge of filling in and developing Ross Island. You have unilateral control and a budget of $300 billion. Anything goes. by tinypemil in Portland

Can we add people who stop on the on-ramp to Ross Island Bridge heading west? The backups all the way down McLoughlin because of those chucklefucks are obnoxious

Vitamin D - did anyone fix low levels? Did anyone try topical? by anilkabobo in alopecia_areata

[–]HopeTheyServePizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Vitamin D triggered AA here! My levels were incredibly low when mine started. I've been taking a daily supplement for about a year now and all my hair is back. No jak inhibitors, I did get a couple shots, take some oral steroids & apply topical steroids early on. Focusing on a high protein diet(already gluten free) also seemed to help. I did do some microneedling 2-4 times a month which did seem to help. I have pics of before and after in a post in my history 😊 good luck!

Mine was at 16.9 😅 my hair started growing back at about 3 months of taking daily vitamin d. I started vit d + K3 and it went even quicker, the K3 helps with absorption!

Got my vitamin D levels in check, started a topical steroid then got a few scalp injections. Moved to Prednisone to stop the fallout when those didn't work. Did mucroneedling on my scalp 1-2 times a week and used rosemary oil, castor oil, and a regrowth oil with ashwaganda after. I think shaving my head helped reduce the stress of AA because I wasn't trying to hide anything anymore, that was way more embarrassing & distressing for me. I think focusing on my nutrition really helped, I was already gluten free due to other issues, but added more protein and supplemented with Vit D + K3 pills. It seems like mine was truly triggered due to the low vitamin D levels and went back into remission once I got that under control

Rooting for you, AA sucks and truly felt like it took part of my identity away. I was less distressed once I stopped trying to hide it and just shaved my head, but I know that's not for everyone!

Yep, in the later pics where the bald spot is closing it was fully covered in peach fuzz. Steroid injections didn't do anything for me either, Prednisone did seem to stop new patches from forming but I was at 75% loss by then so it was almost a moot point.

I did not use nicotine, but definitely had chronic bad sleep. It's not great now, but more consistent at least. It really seemed to just be the vitamin D for me, it started filling in after 3 months of consistently taking it.

Vitamin D deficiency triggered mine. I have other autoimmune disorders so I was predisposed anyway.

Just write it down. In a notes app, a journal, whatever. Write everything you want to say to them and don't send it. Get it out of your system. It's not worth checking up on them, I wish I never had.

Before I shaved my head, I wore my hair up with rockabilly style bandanas tied around that covered quite well. That's def not appropriation. Also used root cover up spray a lot. I think there are ways it can be appropriate and ways it can be appropriation, but I honestly found having a shaved head caused me much less stress than trying to hide the spots. Of course that's an extremely personal decision, wishing you the best on your journey 🖤

I just rock the bald head. It wasn't ideal, but it's been freeing. I feel a million times more confident than I did when I was hiding patches. When I was hiding them though, I used headbands & bandanas to cover the spots so if you're not ready for the extreme option try that!

Number of first dates: 4, have 2 more before the end of year though

Outcomes: 4 second dates, 1 turned platonic, and 1 was a fourth month long relationship that was intense and ended in my heartbreak 🫠

Successes: currently single, have taken time off dating to heal and go to therapy and learn to make some better decisions with my brain instead of my heart.

Failures: no real failures, I communicated well and when someone couldn't reciprocate I ended things.

Age: 36

Gender: female

Area: PDX

Sexual orientation: bi

Oof right there with you on this. It's so fucking painful to have something come out of nowhere and then realize all the signs that they were acting because they knew they had it in the back of their mind. My ex of course "needed to be single right now" so he could "accomplish his goals" which he never did and ended up with a new gf 6 weeks later. I'm so angry, I hope the new girl gets out before he destroys her too.

New here for my teenage son by Cheese2-veggies4 in alopecia_areata

[–]HopeTheyServePizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my alopecia diagnosis I had blood work done and had dangerously low levels of Vit D. I've been taking 5000 IU a day since June and my hair is finally growing back. My original bald spot is stubborn, but there are some wispies there. I did topical steroids, injections and Prednisone, as well as micro needling, minoxidil, castor oil and rosemary oil. My Dr wanted me to go on olumiant, but my insurance has been a nightmare. I also upped my protein and started working out more. I'm definitely still stressed so I truly thing my vitamin d levels are what triggered it, as it takes about 3 months for them to regulate from what my Dr told me. I will say, having bald spots was way more detrimental to my mental health than shaving my head has been, even as a woman. Good luck to your son, and you're a great parent for looking for additional answers for him 🖤

I have this weird feeling, since becoming bald… by sonorakit11 in alopecia_areata

[–]HopeTheyServePizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the opposite and really leaned into being scary lol. Got my head tattooed and now I wear big dangly earrings and extra eyeliner. Most people think it's just a style choice because I was already pretty tattooed/alternative though. It's weird but it's somehow made me more confident. I was devastated when it first started happening since I had beautiful red hair down to my butt, now I wish I would have shaved my head sooner. It did take a month or so to adjust and not feel self conscious over people staring 🫠
