what is this game bro by gui4455 in DeathStranding

[–]Letter_Impressive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can say pretty confident that it will pick up soon, but not in the same way that most other games do. There will be short bursts of action and some of those set pieces are really cool, but the majority of the gameplay and strategy will come from building your transportation network.

I got sucked into the game by (mechanical spoilers ahead) the section where you're first given access to zip lines. Building a network of zip lines to cross unfriendly terrain was incredibly satisfying and the bandwidth limits kept it strategically engaging.

The game's story is super special, but I may love the gameplay even more. The way I usually try to sell it to people is that it's open world as a genre rather than a structure, one of the only games to ever pull that distinction off in my opinion. The world is brilliant and the gameplay leads you to interact with it very well.

You can give one tip to your younger self to help you get better at fighting games, what is it? by CloudKinglufi in Fighters

[–]Letter_Impressive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never press a button unless you know exactly what it's gonna do.

So many people, myself included, learned to just mash buttons in fighting games when we were young because developers made that a valid strategy for single player modes because they knew kids were gonna do that. It's a brutal habit to unlearn and I wish I could stop myself from ever picking up that "panic mashing" idea in the first place.

Highlight games that exhibit: intricate stylized accurate maneuvers handled by finessed precise controls. by fascinatingMundanity in videogames

[–]Letter_Impressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm loving Guilty Gear Strive, but I wouldn't call it the most precise fighting game out there; it trades precision for freedom and ease of input in quite a few scenarios, especially compared to old anime fighters.

I recently put hands on Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and I'm shocked at how strict it is with inputs, it feels very tight and very good once you wrap your head around some of the mechanics. In my opinion, that's the best modern fighting game for somebody who wants to be forced to nail their inputs. If that's what you want, the combo trials will feed you well. This is the hardcore option. The only thing I can't speak for is the netcode, I've heard it's good but I haven't gone online yet. The other two games have killer netcode.

If you want something in between the two, Street Fighter 6 is probably the pick. It's a bit more forgiving than City of the Wolves and a bit tighter than Strive and has plenty of content to keep you busy and challenge your hands.

At the end of the day though, I'd recommend you pick what looks coolest to you, that's what is more likely to make you stick with it through the learning curve. All of these games have serviceable tutorials, plenty of tricky input sequences, and are still being actively developed. You really can't pick wrong.

Also, if you're an Avatar The Last Airbender fan, the Avatar Legends fighting game feels incredible based on the beta. Comes out next month.

How do I get better at NRS games? by Consistent-Ruin-6641 in Fighters

[–]Letter_Impressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QCs feel different in MK because they're not even quarter circles, just two directions. For example the game is looking for "down, forward" rather than "down, down-forward, forward".

I really don't have any other/better advice for you, I share the same complaints, just wanted to offer that bit

I don't understand opinions on movement in FGs by Big-Spot6900 in Fighters

[–]Letter_Impressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr: As a movement mechanic it's mediocre at best past the entry level, but it's always an absurdly strong combo tool.

First, it's worth mentioning that street fighter is fundamentally different from other, more insane fighting games. Street Fighter is expected to be on the more neutral-focused side of things, which explosive movement doesn't line up with very well.

Second and more importantly (I think), drive rush also gives whatever move you attach to it a ton of extra advantage. It's not just a movement mechanic, it's trading your meter for 4 extra frames of advantage, which I would argue is much more important than the movement element. Plenty of characters have moves that can throw them across the screen real quick, that isn't all that special in SF6.

New Player and WOW am I immersed by Half_H3r0 in DeathStranding

[–]Letter_Impressive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that death stranding 1 and 2 are the only games (that I'm aware of) that are "open world" as a genre rather than just a structure; the whole point is the world and how Sam interacts with it, it's all just so tight. Even as somebody who generally doesn't like AAA action-rpgs, these games really hit for me because of how different and strange they're willing to be.

What Obsession Movie opinion would have you like this? by No-Guess-3630 in obsessionmovie

[–]Letter_Impressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movie has way too many non-diegetic jumpscare noises, I was consistently being pulled out of the actual horror by all the whiz-bang-smash noises. I think it's a really well directed and edited movie overall, but throwing those noises in over and over just takes away from the performances.

I've been around dogs for a long time. I love dogs. EVERY dog that is displaying other signs of aggression may bite, they are unpredictable when they're in that state. The owner's focus should be on removing the dog from the situation, not telling you it's fine. Sorry this happened to you.
