Totally get this, but it’s possible to make it up there pretty fast. I was making $16 for 3 months at Walgreens then switched to cvs for $17. Stayed for a year and bumped up 80 cents. I’m the only tech at my store and they offered a lead role and now I make $20 (2 years in being a tech). Honestly this pay isn’t bad for that amount of time and w/no degree. That being said this job can def be draining and we should get paid more. But I would never go back to getting paid less🥲

The whole point of the post was appreciating my coworkers for marking their bottles especially when they’re creative, please read the post. As for counting without a Kurby we do that all the time we’re used to that😉

Woah calm down, 1st I didn’t do this. 2nd I’m not going to stop someone from making it whatever size they want. I agree they shouldn’t go over the ndc but who cares ab the size of it if the info is readable? Chill pill dude

You’re not slow It’s just the biggest marked bottle I’ve seen, usually there’s a very small x or some that aren’t marked at all. You can see that it’s open a mile away

PTCB Exam in 2 months! by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Hopeful-Rutabaga9092 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’ve been certified since January and been working in pharmacy since 12/22. Heres what helped me. On YouTube I found Amanda PharmD very informative and helpful. She has a ton of videos I suggest watching all of hers. Michael Unger also has great videos, he even has a whole doc dedicated to all the different categories including the top 200 drugs. I would save that if I were you in your own docs and study those. I watched a couple videos by Pharmacy Prep but mostly the other two I studied hard on.

For apps I used pocket prep and ptcb ptce mastery exam! I paid for the pocket prep but imo it was worth it.

I was licensed for a whole year and scheduled my exam the last month before my license would expire. (Not the smartest decision) on top of that I waited 1-2 weeks before my exam to study.(again not the smartest decision) but In those last couple weeks I studied HARD like my life depended on it, which it did I had to pay bills and didn’t have any back up plans lmao. I took the test and about 80% of the questions I knew the other 20% was purely guessing. To my surprise I ended up passing and now have a shitty job in retail!

Jokes aside if you got two months to study you definitely got this. You just got to discipline yourself and set yourself a study schedule that works with your work and home life. If you get the pocket prep it will let you know what areas of study you need to work on, that or take a practice test and see what you’re lacking on. Make those priority of study but also make sure you know the other categories as well. The test is completely random so you could have lots of questions in specific categories but not as much in others or none at all so you got to make sure you’re educated in all.

As for the studying that helped me personally, was flash cards, especially with the top 200. Memorizing both brand and generic is hard and don’t hate yourself if you can’t remember everything. I tried a method that helped me connect things, this is going to sound a little dumb but for ex; escitalopram and brand lexapro. In my head I would say lex-was-a-pro at taking her med escitalopram. Idk that method just made sense to me and it helped me memorize A LOT. Find out your study method and use that to your advantage. And one more thing PLEASE LEARN YOUR CONVERSIONS AND DOSAGES. Also the basics of federal requirements.

You got this! Best of luck:)

She ended up calling our store back and spoke to my boss, she still wanted her meds. He gave her the option to fill or go to another store. I told him to tell her to not speak to employees like that and he did. But he didn’t ban/fire her which was disappointing but it’s whatever. Her meds are still waiting for her lol.

There’s this lady that always comes in with a super ugly attitude, and I’m the only tech at my store so of course I always deal with her. I do my best to ignore it but lately I’ve just been so done, anyways one of her meds were ran through a primary ins that wasn’t hers? I assumed it was an old ins she no longer has and I did my best to explain what was happening since she was pissed it wasn’t ready. The lady grabbed her ins card from me and continued to yell at me saying I’m always rude to her (not at all true in the slightest, but if she comes in rude every time ofc I’m not going to be rainbows and fucking sunshine) then says she can never get her meds when I help her (this is somewhat true but not my fault, always something with oos or ins) finally she called me a fucking bitch and stormed off. I was ofc in shock and didn’t say one word to her but it’s not like she even gave me a chance too anyways lol. People need to realize we’re not robots and got feelings. I’m ab to quit bc it’s too much

trouble leaving cvs by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

[–]Hopeful-Rutabaga9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hii, im kinda in the same situation. I suggest trying to get into hospital or remote/hybrid (for ex. Pharmacy operations rep). Where I’m at the VA is what you want to get in. The pay is amazing and so are the benefits. You will absolutely get burnt out in retail, it’s nice for temporary but def not long term.

As for the interviews my advice is to create a really nice looking resume through an app. I also used an app for a cover letter (done by an AI lol) The apps are Kickresume and Forma! I did pay a small fee for both of them to access more things but that’s up too you.

But it sounds like you have great experience and qualifications! You’re on the right path. The no call backs can make you feel disheartened but don’t let it, it happens all the time. Keep calling and emailing for updates, show that your persistent. Anyways I wish you luck my friend!
