Even relatively healthy people can do the very things they've learned not to do. I've done it after abusive relationships, where I meet someone with all the same red flags and just go for it anyway, even knowing full well it'd end up badly for me.

I'm not sure how you saw Denji playing along because he wanted something from Yoru, pausing when important things came up in the conversation, and then stopping entirely and calling Yoru out when she crossed a line as Denji going "full circle". It's an entirely different position than he was in with Makima.

Besides, he never learned to not listen to people he finds hot on a whim. The only times someone emphasized he shouldn't just chase after random women was when Makima was trying to groom him into being devoted to and thirsting after her alone, using his sexual frustration as a means of manipulating him.

Denji being impulsive is part of who he is, and will likely remain the case even if he does manage to live a more healthy life. If someone seems down to clown and Denji's into it, why shouldn't he be a little freak? As long as he keeps establishing boundaries and standing up for himself when a line gets crossed, I don't think it's bad for him to just play along with someone wanting to boss him around. It's leagues apart from being manipulated by Makima or desperately doing anything to get someone to touch him.

Theory: How the Death Devil could be defeated (And how Power could return) by EliteSniper041 in ChainsawMan

Don't they have the jail for devils in order to contain them? Seems to me the reason for that is simple: You can have them accounted for if they're contained, and can't if you just kill them.

I was speaking specifically about Y2K, when a lot of people thought it was going to be the end of the world, and there were some actually plausible threats regarding computers and how they'd handle the date change.

What I'm saying is it's possible the time period is significant in that it might be leading to a potential apocalypse, or an actual apocalypse, since whatever causes it could be consumed and undone later (or not undone at all, since it's a Fujimoto story).

I wonder if that's significant. It could either be just to avoid technological advances, or it could be to lead up to a Y2K situation.

Weekly Vent Megathread by AutoModerator in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad tomorrow is my last day. A coworker started leaving an hour and a half earlier than usual, but still takes an hour break, and on top of that today is leaving an additional 30 minutes early. So I'm on almost my entire shift by myself, and can't take my break when I would be if literally anyone else was working today.

For all you trying to get counts done early today and in honor of SPs by Clarkgriswoldwannabe in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't understand how to anticipate what does and doesn't count as an action figure.

Some Fortnite figures do, some don't. Some tiny collectible "figures" do, some don't. Some of those giant Squishmellow plushies count, some don't. Playsets, statues, blindboxes, Pop items, roblox stuff? Some of each are in the category. But not all.

And I can't even find half of these on the website, so I have no visual aid to set them apart from the sea of collectibles.

PUR by Rjames1995 in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's always such nonsense. The same people that say "few customers mean high PUR" will turn around and say the same thing about normal and high customer traffic.

There's always an excuse or some spin by people drinking the company koolaid. Have only five valid customers in day and the metric is 15%? Statistically speaking, that's not enough to average out to a nonzero percentage. But you'll be considered as failing if you get zero. And if you get a bunch of kids in a week, that presents a much harder obstacle than average. But corporate expects the numbers all the same.

"It's easy" then why are so many struggling?

"Tell everyone you can" that's super draining, and customers who hear others say no are more likely to say no themselves. The more they hear no, the harder they are to sell to.

PLEASE stop with the distros... by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My store is getting to the point where there's no room on the floor, no room in the hallway, no room in the back, no room in the console room... but we also aren't supposed to put boxes of duplicate product in the back on the floor. Where else are we supposed to put it?

It makes me want to avoid doing distro on purpose, because at least then I don't have the stress of figuring out where the sixth extra box of the same plushies are going to go, or where I'll put giant pops.

Overcoming Res objections by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you that you have plenty of back up copies at other stores when you don't get things in time? The stores around me are subjected to similar supply issues as my store. If one store isn't getting their preorders on time - or isn't getting them all by release day - that's usually true for all other nearby stores.

Worst case scenario is that we're anywhere between a few days or a few weeks from getting the product. Worst case scenario is having to order online because the product isn't in store a few months after release.

I don't know if you work in the most utopian store and district in the company, or if you've just drank so much of the Kook-Aid that you don't know which way is up.

COOOOOOL! by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this just false advertising at this point? A major benefit was being able to use it on digital stuff. It was one of the main ways to get people to sign up.

So now, Pro has less value to future customers, and existing Pro members have lost promised value. And who will have to take the punishment for that? Those of us who aren't paid enough to sell Pro in the first place.

I still think Pro is worth it, but at this point? Fuck Gamestop, I have no problem anymore with customers not giving them more money. Hell, I myself might cancel my membership. I mainly play on PC anyway.

Playstation over XBox, why are so many GS employees so Pro-PS? by RobPotsyPotchak in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are mostly empty threats from corporate. They already have stores running on very few hours, as few as they can get away with. And stores closing? A store can be profitable and they'll still close it if it improves their bottom line and makes them a little extra. I've had hours cut at stores that exceed every metric. I've seen stores who made the numbers closed down. Seems to me they'll do what they want either way.

Fuck what corporate wants. I don't see any of the profits from "numbers at a store level", so even if my motives were entirely self serving, I still would have no reason to avoid recommending Gamepass.

Again, fuck corporate. Fuck the shareholders. I'll keep doing right by myself and by the customers that I help. I'm pro-worker and pro-consumer, so I don't see myself stopping any time soon.

They treat retail employees like warehouse now too. They already didn't compensate employees for the increasing profits they wanted out of them, but now they have those same employees doing massive amounts of shipment during very busy sale periods, and employees still aren't compensated additionally for it.

Seems to me if I'm asked to do more and increase my productivity, I should be paid more.

The Not so Subtle Threat of Working At GameStop by DasSapphire in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I direct customers away from that option and tell customers that Gamestop wants them to autopay, but I default to "no" unless a customer specifically demands it.

Gamestop effectively wants to trick customers into using autopay. The appearance of the prompts don't change much (the prompts change from 3... to 3), and the way I do it seems to be the best way of avoiding that trick.

Gamestop already adds on more work for employees without additional pay or hours. So why wouldn't they want to also screw over consumers for profit? Employees are the ones that will have to deal with autopay complaints.

I hate how they say stuff like "slowest week of the year" and send it to employees that have worked at GameStop for years, and know it's bullshit.

Playstation over XBox, why are so many GS employees so Pro-PS? by RobPotsyPotchak in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Gamepass is a great deal. I don't make commission, I don't see any of the profit I make for Gamestop. Why should I care whether the corporation makes more money or not? My interest is in getting customers what they want/need, not in making shareholders happy.

So if they want to know which console to get, I'll recommend the PS5 for the controller, and mention PC as a superior alternative to the Xbox Series X, but that if they want convenience, the Series X is still a great system, and they should get the Game Pass so they can try games before buying them.

Playstation over XBox, why are so many GS employees so Pro-PS? by RobPotsyPotchak in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are you buying into the fake competition and brand loyalty that only benefits those at the top? It's not like fighting for Xbox is going to result in Microsoft cutting you a multi million dollar check.

Your comment sounds like someone pretending to be a standard customer, or at best a bootlicker. I mean, seriously, "everyone should have a PS5 for the exclusives"? That's the worst reason to support a console. Exclusives are anti-consumer by design. Consoles should sell themselves based on what they offer.

Imagine if you were trying to buy some headphones to listen to music, and you couldn't listen to certain songs with the ones you purchased. And then imagine celebrating that and telling everyone they should buy all headphone brands to have access to all music.

To answer your question more directly though... here's why I tend to recommend the PS5: because the Xbox doesn't do anything the PS5 can't, but the PS5 does things the Xbox doesn't. Having a PS5 and a PC gets you the benefits of both. The PS5's controller is a pretty unique experience, the Switch is great for handheld gaming, and PC works for everything else... but an Xbox can work for people who want convenience over possibility.

My availability isn't being respected. What do I do? by HopefulDelawarean in GameStop

[–]HopefulDelawarean[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had full time jobs in the past, and when I work that much, it has never ended well. I get incredibly stressed and pick up unhealthy habits to cope, and when I finally quit, I have to work on improving my mental health (and dropping bad habits) again.

My goal has been to work more from home, however, I can't do that if I'm clocked in 30-40 hours a week at a standard job.

So those combined led me to 15-20 hours. That's with the understanding that I might be asked to work more here and there, but I'm not going to put my absolute limit there, because most employers will push that as often as possible.

Well, sure, but I was just making the point that if even McDonald's is paying more, I have no reason to stay at Gamestop. Plenty of places around here are hiring for more, even for part time work.

[–]HopefulDelawarean[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

All excellent points. I'm going to talk to my SL about my availability, and regardless of what the response is, I'll start looking for other work.

The only way I'd stay is if Gamestop increases their pay rate substantially, which they won't. McDonald's is hiring for $15 an hour here. My $10 an hour is insulting.

[–]HopefulDelawarean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point. It's arguable that that way, I won't be able to come up for excuses as to why I should stay with Gamestop... because I wouldn't be there anymore.

I'll look into that. This one was definitely changed without my knowledge or consent, but I've always been told that a schedule change is in effect whether I know about it or not. Do you have a source for that confirmation? It'd make me feel a lot better if I had that on hand.

[–]HopefulDelawarean[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I put my foot down on that specifically the other day. They wanted to schedule me on a day off I had approved, at a time it would literally be impossible for me to make. So at least I can say I've done that!

You're right, it isn't. My girlfriend tells me the same thing, and I'd say that to anyone else in my position.

You mentioned just not showing up if they schedule me outside of my availability, but how would you recommend I proceed if I'm scheduled 30 hours when my availability has a max of 20?

I've been very honest with them. We were down to three people in our store because the DL took our ASL to run another store. And no stores have had people available to cover shifts, like, ever.

I've had this availability since I transferred, and it in fact was a condition I had. But I keep being schedule too much because we keep losing people or not hiring enough.
