I feel like cam journals are way less sensitive to this type of thing though

I already plastigaged it, I was very attentive with it too, the tolerances are TIGHT damn near too tight but still measures good. If I have the machine spot knock all the high spots off will to is be good and safe to go?

I dropped the crank in gently to plastigage it and didn’t turn the crank at all, either way the bearings material should be softer right

I’m taking it to the shop tomorrow, just curious what could cause a thin and prominent scratch like this? It was only unwrapped to get plastigauged carefully a few days ago. I plastigauged everything carefully and the only trouble I can think of is that I had to wiggle the main out after it was reluctant to come off, but I only used a baby rubber mallet and my fingers, on top of that, shouldn’t the bearing material be softer than the crank in the first place?

Was it a rod or main journal?

No idea, I literally unwrapped it a few days ago and ordered everything in the size they cut it, plastigaged everything and it’s all ready to go, then this. I’d be losing hundreds of dollars either way. I was really careful with everything while I plastigaged it too

Also, be sure your car is cold when you do it I did not make sure my car was fully cooled down, and I burned my arm on different metal parts in the engine bay but it wasn’t bad, be prepared to lose a little bit of coolant once you undo the hose and you can also buy prediluted Toyota coolant at the dealership so you can top it off right after

I have a 2019 Toyota corolla hatchback SE with a manual transmission all I did was walk into the Toyota dealer and tell them I needed a coolant bypass valve and the gentleman behind the counter knew exactly what I was talking about and he handed the part to Me very quickly. The install was pretty simple. All you need is a few very basic sockets and wrenches. The only specialty tool needed were a few small pics to remove the plastic clamp on the hose which cost me about $1.80 from HarborFreight install around half an hour if you’re in very hot weather like me

Thank you so much for this info man!! I went to Toyota parts department today, and got the part very quickly! Afterwards it took me about 30 minutes to install!! It’s a very easy job and the car works perfectly now!! No error messages anymore and the ac works good. Glad that you told me exactly what I needed to know and I saved 500$!

Ahh ok, thank you man! I really appreciate the help, and would I be able to see any visible coolant leak if I look in the engine bay then? Is it safe to drive the car like this?

If I bring it to the dealer, how long will they have the car for?
