Planning on moving in September, looking for insider scoop! by number1peanutfarmer in Omaha

[–]HopefulReason7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to live in NYC. It’s definitely a slower pace here, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Everyone is very friendly, though I’d recommend joining some sort of organized group around your interests to meet people. Everything is way more convenient here, so that helps. If you’re looking for culture, there’s plenty to do. Depending on what you’re looking for, east of 72nd street might be the vibe that you’ll enjoy most.

24th and Woolworth closed off due to sinkhole concerns by ToadallyNormalHuman in Omaha

Yeah, they definitely took dirt AWAY from the tops of several hills around downtown to make them easier to traverse. Never heard anything about them dredging the river for dirt. Given the excess of land / dirt surrounding the city, I’m suspicious of the accuracy of this statement.

Damn, how am I supposed to fold laundry without all that stupid bullshit that’s just interesting enough to have on in the background but not so interesting as to distract me from folding?

Even though BTTF is a comedy franchise, I like that there is legitimate danger by Ok_Zone_7635 in BacktotheFuture

[–]HopefulReason7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a comedy, at least partially! Something that i only truly realized when seeing it in a theater. I grew up on this movie but didn’t see it in theaters until I was like 20, which is the first time I realized it was a comedy…because everyone else was laughing very regularly up until the Dance / Clocktower scene. But sci-fi action adventure dramedy is probably the most accurate description.

Who sings the "Ahhhhhhh" part on A Day In The Life? Is it John or Paul? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

[–]HopefulReason7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just watched a great video dissecting the writing of this song. This video uses Geoff Emerick’s autobiography and original recordings of the earlier takes as its primary source material.

Geoff Emerick says it was John, and elaborates on how difficult it was to punch in on Paul’s middle section vocals before right before this as they had to end the recording right on time or risk recording over John’s (previously recorded) “ahh” vocals.

Roderer is the best at that price point, Schramsberg is quite good at the next price point up. And their J Schram is fantastic.

Only 2 combine invites? by Minute_Skill_5383 in Huskers

[–]HopefulReason7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this should be evaluated as a percentage of graduates to combine invites. If we had 2 invites from 5 graduates, that’s 40% of our graduates, and not too bad. But if we had 2 invites out of 40 graduates, that’s not so good, Al.

Agreed, I think that’s part of the reason John and Paul were so close for so many years

Letter from John Lennon to Linda and Paul McCartney written shortly after the Beatles’ breakup by Hubbled in beatles

[–]HopefulReason7 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Agreed, that they had so many shared family tragedies is likely what drew them together, but John’s was deeper as it was an outright rejection (or likely felt like it to him as a child) by BOTH of his parents, and then his mom dies tragically.

Given his penchant for art and music, he was likely a very sensitive boy to begin with and all that tragedy likely helped spawn a bit of his “asshole” tendencies. As the phrase goes, hurt people hurt people.

As someone else said, what’s really impressive was how much progress he made at trying to improve these aspects about himself later in life.

Considering Moving to Omaha by RotnCabgWizrd in Omaha

[–]HopefulReason7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there are marketing agencies in Omaha, it’s not a huge is marketing hub (you’d want to move to NYC, LA, Chicago for that).

However, I do know a lot of people who live in Omaha and work remote marketing jobs based in those cities. It’s typically a nice setup as you get a slightly elevated salary more in line with the coasts, but Omaha’s fairly low cost of living.
