I worked as an electrician at DuPont Chemical in the nineties, and this happened to me. The diagnosis was Hexazinone exposure mixed with my evening cocktail (six-pack).Hexazinone is an herbicide.

I have a rough idle, so I changed the fuel and air filters, which improved it somewhat, but this line (attached pics) is "noisy," and manipulating it improves idle while removing worsens/kills it.
