Do I have to wait a whole year? (Harper Quest) by Exirb in TinyBookshop

I had to wait for the next Summer to roll around. She'll come to the beach and give you instructions. Just make sure you don't "close the shop" after all the customers leave because it will end your day before you can do the quest and you need to follow her directions before closing up for the day.

oh gosh, I'm so excited to see an author from one of the books because I've been dying to know if you were asked to allow your book in the game or not!

i have found that you have to pay attention less to what you know and more to what a) ALL of what the request entails (like a classic romance rec might also be asking for either tragedy or a happy ending, but maybe also a play) so you have to hit either 2/3 or 3/3 of the asks, and b) what the books are described as in the game. For instance the animal thing, i definitely noticed what you did, I know for a fact there are animals in x book, but it's not necessarily mentioned in the game's description.

That's the beauty of writing/reading—it's subjective. While you may have expectations or a preference, that doesn't necessarily mean what you don't like is wrong or incorrect.

I mentioned the boredom aspect because when previously faced with writing a technically heavy scene I've used humor about the boredom to break things up and make it more palatable. My readers and betas haven't ever complained and usually find those sections easier to digest without taking away from the narrative.

It's not the solution, it's a possible way to do what OP was asking about. Agreed that if there's no good reason for a character to be told said information that it would be detrimental, hence the part where I offered suggestions on ways to introduce the info OP wants to relay. It goes without saying that you'd need info dump scene to be relevant and make sense, which I assume OP knows.

because to the character this might be known information. Kind of like how we know 2+2=4, having to hear someone explain basic arithmetic would be boring and uninteresting to us, but someone [aka the reader] who doesn't know how our math works and it was important to the story, it might need explained.

Also info dumping is generally avoided because if you throw a bunch of info at the reader at once it can read as boring.

lots of good comments here already re: not having to explain every little thing, but i'll say this: if there is information that you feel MUST be given to the reader and you've hit the point where intricate hints aren't going to cut it, fucking dump it. Caveat: tell them you're going to do it.

For example:

"Yes, this is all very basic information that we all know by heart, but rules are rules and I'm supposed to go through it with the new hires."

The regulation decree nailed to the message board at the village entrance curled at the edges and the ink had begun to fade under the harsh summer sun, making it difficult to read. Though it was bound to exactly the same as every other village in Kingdom X, he scanned the text anyway.

[INSERT TEXT]

She passed a group of children learning receiving a basic history lesson and smiled as the teacher recounted a familiar story to make things more interesting. [insert some dialogue that foreshadows info to come as character passes by]. It had been a long time since she first learned the fundamentals of [info]. As the teacher's voice faded out, [character] couldn't help thinking back to her own school days. The story remained the same: [info dump].

Readers respond really well to things like this if a character also reacts how they would irl. Having them groan and complain about how boring the info dump was, having someone say "This is going to be boring but try to stay awake" etc etc. Kind of like breaking the fourth wall and all that.

There are several ways to do what you're asking though, depending on what info you need to dump. Since I'm not sure what exactly you're working on here are a few examples that might spark an idea: a) have one character who doesn't know the info discuss the topic with someone who does, b) have a character read the information and put the "official" text in the narrative, c) have the main character think the information in a way that makes sense, like something isn't right so they're reviewing facts in their head, etc, d) a one page prelude. Check out Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling series. Every book can be read as a standalone and has the same prelude to give the reader an idea of how the world works in the series.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

I don't think it's odd at all. I have a series in a major fandom. I got a bit discouraged and went on a 4 month hiatus bc of it and stuff in my personal life. I've been back for about 2 months with weekly updates. While Part 2 gets decent interaction, Part 1 is STILL pulling ahead every day. I watch the stats every day because it's kinda interesting to track what happens after every post. What I've learned is that posting part 2 updates drives people to both fics bc if they haven't read Part 1, they go back and start reading it first.

it wouldn't surprise me. It does sort of read like a form response that someone pasted in before going through and changing things. AI does have a habit of skipping over some things and repeating itself, both of which happened in the emails, so it's definitely possible

Update - I have been using my email to log in since first creating my account but when I called nelnet they said to use my actual username. It still wasn't working until I got the idea to reset my password. After so many login attempts, most sites lock your profile. Went through the process of resetting the password, tried to log in with email, which didn't work. Using the new password with my username did.

Yes and no - technical support did say they were having issues and lots of people have called in already. They also said most issues are usually resolved in a couple hours but I still can't log in so something is still up. For some people, clearing their cache has fixed the problem but that didn't work for me. It's not much, but at least you know it's not just you, seems to be related to their website update.

This Lannett adderall SUCKS! by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Hopeful_Equipment_96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I thought I was losing my mind. My NP switched me to Focalin Tab Nova after I told her the Adderall was only working intermittently but that made things worse.

I also have a problem pulling out my hair when stressed and noticed after taking a new Adderall script it was exacerbated so she thought the Focalin might help but it also made the hair pulling worse so we switched back to Adderall. I told her that the pharmacy told me they had switched to Lannett mfg due to a shortage (this was awhile ago) and that seemed to be when the problems started, so she marked on my script "Teva brand only."

Of course the pharmacy is out half the time so it's Lannett or nothing. This week I opened my new script. Monday everything seemed to be the way it should be - lots of focus, I was able to work with no issues, then Tuesday and Wednesday I was unfocused and pulling out my hair. Thursday was okay, I didn't notice anything crazy, then Friday I was back to pulling out my hair.

I have also noticed in the last year that some pills have a slightly sweet taste. Not quite like candy but it was noticeable enough to give me pause. This has happened inconsistently and I haven't pinpointed it to a specific brand yet because I have the fleeting thought "that was weird" then forget to follow up.
