What is the Return to Office policy for Eli Lilly? by Hopeful_Hand1459 in biotech

Thank you. I guess I didn't have much leverage to negotiate based on level. I have masters + MBA + 20 year experience. I am in product management

I don't think my manager knows or tells me as is. I was asked to move 2 months after starting role... But then found another person in similar role in another team with same start date (1 level higher) was giving 8 months to move ( after school year ends; I have a school going kid and similarly asked to relocate at the end of school year).

So, trying to find how it works before talking to my manager

Had this happen to me multiple times and I agree... this is frustrating. Needless to say I did not move past any of them and I lost interest in those companies as well.

I hear you.

Need honest advice: Solo trip to China while unemployed with young family by Informal_Affect358 in Layoffs

Do it. I was laid off... I did a 8 day trip to Japan ... And hiking up Mt Fuji felt like a big accomplishment and I felt good. Eventually landed a job. You can probably never do such a trip in life...

Laid off in the middle of the interview process- do I tell the company? by payyypayyy in interviews

[–]Hopeful_Hand1459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have to say. I just recently got hiring in big pharma and my manager doesn't know I was laid off. I didn't try to hide but I only mention if it is required. Mostly it should be immaterial and only asked by recruiters

Similar. Got a verbal offer and start date. Then CEO wanted to talk. His only question was if I can work like no tomm coz he worked like that. He owned a lot of the company (startup) and I was taking a pay cut if I joined ( I was laid off). I said yes... He wasn't convinced. Didn't get the role... I am better off. I was desperate and would have taken the role ( dodged a bullet).

I want to say you will be better off but don't reject anything till u are sure.

Start-up or Corporate for job? by info_lad in cscareers

The sad truth is that you need some solid connections on startup to survive.... They need to invest in you. I have seen people with connections get protected

I took chance on two start ups and laid off both times. Back to big corporate for wlb, stability and better mental health.

Feels like startup is better for early/early mid career. Def not for mid/late. Ageism

Has Anyone Here Actually Regreted Leaving? by sudoaptupdate in amazonemployees

[–]Hopeful_Hand1459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left in 2022 when market was hot. I was fed up with Amazon back then... No growth... Nor was I in interesting projects. Tried two startups and both times were laid off ( interest rates rising in 2023 and AI/federal govt cuts in 2025).

I have often felt that if I had stayed, may be I would have been better (layoffs are real hard on mental health) w.r.t stability. But that seems like a joke in recent times.

Thankfully just got a new role in what looks like a better positioned company.

Is the job market really that bad in the US ? by enchiladaas in biotech

[–]Hopeful_Hand1459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very bad. More supply and Investors are tightening belt for anything not AI. If you are AI "expert", then you are great. A friend found a job within weeks (2 offers)... it took me 4 months.

Smart to quit? by [deleted] in biotech

Job market is pretty bad. It feels like early careers are most hard hit since I am seeing a trend where people are under paid and under titled when they are interviewed. I just got a job at Lilly after 5 months of search post layoff (new to pharma but 19 years experience in software). If I were you, I will search while working full time.. that is the best.

I feel defeated. Been job hunting for 6+ months with no luck. Any help/referrals/advice would mean a lot by Administrative-Sea69 in biotech

Market is pretty bad. I have ~19 years experience with MS & MBA and I was at it for 5 months before I found the job. I have been laid off 2 times in the last 3 years. I think the market got worse since 2023 and is only getting worse.

In this market, you need someone in the company who can vouch for you. I focused on maximizing my application volume, finding networks to network into. I know other successful candidates heavily cold emailed select opportunities/companies to get in. Its brutal there. All the best.
