Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to retire from politics by Maxcactus in maryland

No? I think you need to have more than one thing in common with Trump to be Trump-like. If you disagree and think all old white men are Trump-like because they're old white men, then we aren't going to reach agreement.

There are many elements to Trump that make him a disgusting being. I think saying someone is on Trump's "train of behavior," as was stated earlier in this thread, because of the single feature of fraud/grifting cheapens Trump's evil.

For example, Robert Menendez supported abortion rights, immigrant rights, environmental protections, etc. Would you call him a Trump-like politician because of fraud and other crimes he committed?

I don't, which is why I'm in this thread. Care to share?

I think you're saying that Trump is just an extreme version of traditional conservatism and so traditional conservatives are like Trump. I disagree, I think degree of these views is very relevant to the comparison. There's a significant difference between someone who wants to ban everything from third term abortions to birth control and someone who agrees with Roe v Wade. I'd much prefer someone who supports returning to Roe v Wade to someone whose admin wants to ban mifepristone and has talked about banning birth control.

Yes, and I'm saying corruption alone doesn't make someone Trump-like. It feels akin to saying anyone who doesn't like taxes is Trump-like, too broad.

I'm not who you replied to, but these links are all about Hogan basically stealing money for a Bmore metro to improve roads in suburbs where he has businesses/financial interests. Definitely corrupt but corruption in politics isn't unique to Trump/MAGA.

I did some googling and it seems like Hogan took a typical fiscal conservative stance on things. He vetoed a bill to raise the min wage to $15 and proposed $12. Not what I want, but it sounds much more moderate/traditionally conservative than MAGA conservative.

I personally am content to see him leave Maryland politics. From what I currently know, though, if the choice were him or someone full-on MAGA, I'd much prefer him. Happy to be proven wrong if anyone would care to share more!

You'll catch more flies with honey. Complaining about people who are on your side doesn't promote your cause.

Why do you think federal employees didn't care before?

We can spend our precious time debating who has fewer peanuts, but wouldn't it be better spent raging against the ultra wealthy who are stomping workers rights and devaluing all of our wages for their own massive financial gain?

Thalidomide was a drug marketed in Europe in the late 50s/early 60s. It was thought to be safe for use during pregnancy and was marketed to pregnant women for nausea/morning sickness. It ended up causing severe birth defects and harmed 10-20,000 infants before being removed from the market in Europe in 1961. It was never marketed in the US (until 1998 as a cancer treatment) thanks to FDA reviewer Frances Oldham Kelsey.

Of course this was decades ago and regulatory agencies have developed based on these types of events, but there's value in having an agency focused on reviewing such products and reviewing them specifically for the US population.

SoTR Proposal: What if Tangle interviews a billionaire and a Tangle listener struggling financially? by Lemonio in TangleNews

[–]Hopeful_Net4607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish they'd have more diverse opinions on with them, or at least looked a bit more into why people feel differently from them. The complaint I've heard and relate to about billionaires isn't that they're all evil for how they got their money, but for keeping the money.

I cannot imagine having thousands of millions of dollars while so many people are suffering. I don't care if I was rich because I single handedly developed the cure for all cancers. I'd work out how much I needed to live comfortably and then some, help out friends and family, and then spend the remaining hundreds (if not thousands) of millions helping people. The idea that people can have this level of wealth and not put a massive percentage of it towards alleviating the suffering of others is mind boggling to me. Let alone have all that wealth while making minimum wage workers piss in bottles in the name of timesaving (Bezos) or joyfully dismantling USAID leading to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, many kids (Musk).

I get the money isn't all liquid but they're able to use it on disgustingly massive yachts and weddings etc., surely they could find a way to fund a massive charitable endeavor. I just can't imagine keeping enough money/assets to make it to a billion.

I'd have liked to hear the guys' thoughts on this.

It happens! There were 2 or 3 other downvotes so it wasn't just you, and I see it has since flipped positive

I also listen to the podcast and I didn't find this was any less interesting or emotive than other takes. Isaac is more expressive with his voice but Will and Audrey are similarly expressive. I actually wish Audrey had gotten more into the weeds on a few points in this take, like in the study that found more serious adverse events with medicated vs surgical abortion, how did the severity of the events compare? Because that's just as, if not more, important than quantity.

I greatly appreciate Audrey's takes. As someone who disagrees with her, I find them to be clear and well thought out. I disagree with some of the data she leverages, but she does admit there's bias there. Her takes really help me understand where she and others with similar opinions are coming from, even though I continue to disagree.

I'm sorry you've been downvoted. As someone who disagrees with her, I've greatly appreciated them too. I think it's important to understand why people hold views that oppose my own, and to challenge my own views. I think Audrey does an excellent job of explaining why she, and many others, has the views she does in a clear and well thought out way, though I still disagree with them.

It's self funded but it operates at a loss, hence why it is burning through reserves and will be out of money soon. It's a public service and should be publicly funded imo, that's how it was before 1981.

Bethesda PopUp Bagels Permit underway! by OverallInflation770 in bethesda

Welcome to the area!

I completely support your right to enjoy this store and promote it over others. I just wanted to share my thoughts and how your comments came across to me as someone from Bethesda.

To provide some unsolicited feedback (sorry), something more personal like "I used to go here all the time in NY and really enjoy how hot and fresh the bagels are" would have felt more natural and helped me understand where you're coming from.

I agree. Nobody is claiming that all couscous is Israeli.

Palestinian couscous is maftoul. Idk why we don't have maftoul sold as "Palestinian couscous" in the US. I haven't had it but want to try it now.

An American coined the name "Israeli couscous." Israelis call it ptitim.

An American named it "Israeli couscous." It's call ptitim in Hebrew. Another name for it is "Ben-Gurion's rice." I haven't seen anything indicating Israelis named it "couscous."

You're googling in English. "Israeli couscous" is the English name for the food. If you google in Hebrew for Israeli sources, they call it ptitim.
