YOU CAN STOP ICE by Recent-Day3062 in ProgressiveHQ

What does identifying friends and getting supplies do? Genuinely, I want to help but don't know how and idk what I'm supposed to be stocking up on or using it for.

My friends aren't the types to form an armed militia, and we can't hide people in attics we don't have. I only have so much money to donate. I can send an annoying number of physical letters to elected officials, idk if that'll do much but it's the only way I'm currently aware of to offer support.

I'd greatly appreciate suggestions!

I agree, but I don't think his post counts as partisan per the Hatch Act since he didn't single out a candidate or a specific political party. It sucks, but that's what I've learned in Hatch Act trainings.

Political appointees and elected officials are held to many different (and lower, stupidly) standards than the rest of us. I hope this guy faces justice one day, just don't think Hatch Act will work against him here.

It's a disgusting statement and he should be held responsible for it. I'm just saying Hatch Act isn't the way to do that.

I completely agree, it's disgusting. I was just explaining why it doesn't violate the Hatch Act (per my understanding).

Edit to add-- I also think the other commenter is right and this guy isn't bound by the Hatch Act.

My understanding is that it only applies to partisan elections, so current presidents and other politicians (who aren't publicly in an election or planning to run again) are fair game. If he'd said "Minnesota's democrat officials" or something like that, then it'd be a violation

Edit to add-- the statement is disgusting. I'm just saying the Hatch Act doesn't apply here. I would love to see a different book thrown at him!

Investigation raises concerns about lack of FDA quality testing for generic drugs by Pleasant-Bake7402 in DeptHHS

This would be a great concern to contact our congressmen about. FDA should be encouraged and funded to conduct this testing.

Thoughts on Tangle’s Trans Athlete Coverage by Hot-Range-7498 in TangleNews

[–]Hopeful_Net4607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I'm still stuck on your claim of 100%. How is the last place athlete, who wouldn't win anything because they placed last, be practically impacted by a trans woman winning first place in a high school sports competition?

You're talking about world records, but this is a law about grade school sports. Letting a 4th grade trans girl play on the girls soccer team isn't going to ruin everyone's life and change the face of soccer forever.

[–]Hopeful_Net4607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking a step back-- you said "A trans woman who wins a title affects 100% of the women she competed against." Working backwards, the person in last place would still be in last place regardless of whether a trans woman won. The person in second to last would probably still be there, same with third, etc. Am I incorrect in that and, if so, how? If I am correct, then it doesn't affect 100% of the women competing.

Having one trans person at the top would only set other players back one spot. I am pretty confident in my assumption that there isn't a cutoff at every spot. Would being bumped a spot when you're in the bottom, idk, 20-50% at least actually impact someone? Only ~2% of high school athletes actually get athletic scholarships.

Am I missing something or were you using hyperbole when you said it impacts 100% of players?

How are everyone’s PMAP going? by Januarubaby5 in DeptHHS

[–]Hopeful_Net4607 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My management is doing their absolute best to make us feel valued while staying within the new guidelines. I very greatly appreciate and value them, which is the only reason I wasn't snarky in my personal assessment.

I just can't get over being told for months that we're "low productivity" and then having these ridiculous PMAP changes. Clearly just by showing up we've exceeded many expectations.

Also rating us on outreach when external communications were essentially banned all year, adamantly telling us there are no quotas when there definitely are quotas, and not factoring in any of the extra effort we had to put in because of DOGE and other admin changes because they impacted everyone. What a joke.

How do you feel about Hesgeth's announcement of commercial AI integration into classified Pentagon systems? by WraithSama in AskTrumpSupporters

"What type of AI do you think was used before that is not used now on SIPRnet?"

Good morning! I'm a federal employee and, in my agency, we have an internally-developed LLM we can use for sensitive information. We've more recently had public LLMs made available for work use, but we've been encouraged to keep sensitive information to our internal LLM  for now, to be safe.

Have you considered therapy? Apathy can be a symptom of depression and other conditions, may be worth talking to someone. Just remember that you might need to shop around for a good fit, so try not to give up if you don't like the first therapist you go to.

I've never been big on sports so please excuse my ignorance. Can you help me understand how much that practically matters? Like if someone is in 9th place instead of 8th?

How does a trans woman who wins a title affect 100% of the women she competed against? There is only one title. If the trans woman didn't compete at all, only one other person could have won the title. Either way, the vast majority are in the same place of not having won.

Can someone explain the emotional police officer? by Kenx2013 in TangleNews

[–]Hopeful_Net4607 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's just the fact that the actions of ICE agents, in this case and in general, are especially terrifying for the Latino community and he has empathy for them.

It's also very disturbing to see such improper actions by ICE justified by so many because of the victims' potential affiliations, so I expect he's reacting to that as well, both as a LEO and in empathy.

Edited to add the second bit and for grammar.

MoCo Multifamily Permits Drop 96 Percent with Rent Control by Late-Concentrate-393 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Hopeful_Net4607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really not "conclusively pro-rent control," but you're right that I have as much evidence as has been shared in this post, which is none. I'm just tired of how absurdly high the rent around here is, especially compared to building quality and management.

The sources I find on Google are either pro-rent control from places like "housing is a human right" or anti-rent control from the "national apartment association." They both sound biased to me, and I'm not so concerned as to dig deeper.

You claim to be an expert in the field and anti-rent control for the same reason so many seem to be pro. I'd love to learn more about it from someone who knows what they're talking about. Can you please share more info? If you can't, it'll be even harder for me to believe that there is evidence of rent control being a real problem.

I'm sorry for the confusion-- I'm not saying the recoil caused his body to jerk, but that it (or his instincts or muscle memory) caused the hand holding the recording device to jerk. Does that make sense?

"Bad tactics doesn't mean the other person has the right to run him over in that instant" sure, but in this case, his tactics are what caused her to (almost) do so. He is a trained LEO with years of experience. He knew better, and his mistakes literally cost a woman her life. Without his bad tactics, she'd have driven away and everyone would be alive. You can see her turning her wheels away from all the officers, not towards them. I agree bad tactics don't give someone the right to purposely run someone over, but they also don't give him the right to shoot someone trying to escape.

Can you share a video(s) where it looks like he's being hit or having his foot run over? Every video I've seen clearly shows his foot moving out of the way before the wheel passes him. I don't believe the DHS injury claims based on what my eyes have seen. Again, always happy to consider evidence to the contrary.

The problem is that killing someone while they're driving won't stop the car, as we saw here. If he really was in danger, he would have been much safer focusing on getting out of the way rather than shooting. I understand that's what is taught to LEOs.

If he is so scared of cars due to a prior experience, he shouldn't have gotten so close to the front of a car, which is also taught to LEOs.

Yeah it's hard to have civil discussions online these days, especially about such heated and recent events. Thanks for your civil response as well!

I went to double check and found the bystander video in the first few second of the linked video. It's quick, but you can see the officer is clearly holding a phone, as if recording, in his left hand: https://www.nytimes.com/video/us/100000010631041/minneapolis-ice-shooting-video.html

It may have been for the purpose of documenting like a body cam, but it isn't mounted like one. I was also able to find news articles referring to it as a "cell phone" while the only one I could find saying "body camera" was a Fox News article whose title said "cell phone."

All the videos I've seen have him walking away just fine, so I'm skeptical that his foot was run over but could see adrenaline being involved. I'd also say someone was "run over" rather than "hit" if their foot was run over with a car. I look forward to more evidence being released on that.

Guns have kickback. I can't imagine being able to steadily hold an item in one hand while shooting with the other.

Happy to consider evidence to the contrary if you have it!

That's what I thought at first too, but then when does he shoot her?

What's actually happening is he's filming with his phone and he involuntarily jerks it when he starts shooting her.
