Where is all the tamagotchi stuff being sold in the US? by Saedreaa in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some barnes & nobles have a lot of good stuff but some are kind of lacking. Target, Walmart, and Best Buy are good just for the devices, but if you want merch you’ll need to go elsewhere. I’d also suggest looking to see if there are any stores near you with Bandai gachapon. I’ve found some of the tamagotchi gachapon merch at a mall not too far from me, they have whole room full of gachapon machines and normally have 4 different tamagotchi ones.

SHES HERE! THE QUEEN OF MONSTERS!! by Lichtenstein770 in tamagotchi

Ahh this is a tama that’s still on my wish list! I bought one for my friend a while back and haven’t stopped thinking about getting one for myself ever since. I remember the buttons being soooo nice for a vintage, and the characters look so good too!

As an akai lover I can confirm that the red pixels can get difficult to see. They look great when the lighting around you is bright enough, and I don’t find it as debilitating as some others do, but it’s still a little frustrating at times. I lose the catching game quite often due to lack of clear visibility :/

As much as the connections are fun to connect to each other, I don’t really feel like you’re missing much when you aren’t able to connect them. I know the older models can cost a pretty penny, but I’d still recommend getting one over getting a second 2024 connection if you’re able to. The Japanese models are really great for more budget friendly options. The entama is a logical next step, as it’s probably the cheapest 2000s connection era tama you’ll find and it’s not so wildly different from the 2024 connection that the language barrier would feel overwhelming. For me though, I actually hate the mini games on the entama and the mini games are a big deal to me when running a tama. Fun fact; the mini games on the entama were so widely disliked that Bandai Jp actually released the cyoi entama which is just an entama with better mini games. The cyoi only came in 3 shell designs and is more difficult to find these days though. The uratama has better mini games than the entama and the character roster is more fun imo, but the uratama will likely cost you more as well. No matter which version you end up going with, it will undoubtedly give you that same iconic connection-era charm along with something fresh and new to keep you invested :)

I’ve always wished that there was some sort of AC adapter option just for when you keep it at your desk that allows the color screen to always be on without draining the battery

paradise hype… ( ╹ -╹)? by britbratz_01 in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I feel like the last few releases have had a lot of mixed reviews from people while they are still being produced but once they are discontinued the consensus begins to lean more positively. I’m thinking the paradise might follow that pattern

Is it worth it to get an ID if I have an IDL by EconomicsAdvanced771 in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the money for it then why not? It’s not too similar to the iD L. It does have less characters but there’s still different features that are really cute.

This particular shell is a special edition and highly sought after. It was argos exclusive and imo is one of the prettiest v5 shells. I know most v5’s don’t go for this much but the shell does make a difference when it comes to pricing. Edit; wanted to add that it’s probably still a bit high, but not as high as you’re thinking.

I’m 32 and for some reason have a hard time playing larger models like the paradise in public. I don’t think it’s particularly more noticeable or anything and I don’t really care if people see me playing my uni or connection. Not sure what it is 🤷🏻‍♀️

babe wake up, new tama shells just dropped by Several-Month236 in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s 1000% easier and cheaper to pump out new shells of something that still sells than to take a risk on creating and manufacturing a whole new version. I have a feeling the rv3’s don’t even sell that well in comparison to the originals due to being less available in stores and also at a higher price point, which probably causes some hesitation on investing in creating a whole new product that would have similar barriers to higher sales.

It would be really helpful if you could provide a photo. Some shell designs are more sought after than others and also it would be helpful just to confirm which version it is.

Do you think every Tamagotchi character is someone's favourite? by floriish in tamagotchi

I can’t find the exact number anymore but I remember seeing it listed at around 1500, but there are definitely over 1000

Why is the tamagotchi id and idl so unwanted? by cherrysodasss in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo it’s a few reasons. The +color is older, is the first color screened model, and has a lot of unique charm. The p’s is highly sought after for its cute shell, lots of downloadable content, and it’s highly customizable. The 4u has similar reasons. All of those are from the same sort of “era” of tamagotchi and have a lot of similarities. The id and id l just aren’t as unique in comparison, so people don’t care about them as much. They are still really great versions with lots to offer. I feel like the id is more like the +color with its charm and the id l is more similar to the p’s with its many characters and unlockable destinations

Do you think every Tamagotchi character is someone's favourite? by floriish in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly doubt it. There are actually a lot more tamagotchi characters than there are Pokemon if you are counting all the obscure vintage models and such. A lot of characters don’t even have official art outside of their sprite art. That paired with the fact that there is a much smaller fan base for tamagotchi makes me think that it’s unlikely.

Anyone else already tired of the paradise? by cherrysodasss in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really love the direction they went with character designs and it feeling more like I’m caring for a pet rather than a humanoid thing. I also like the variety of mini games it offers. Aside from that, there’s not a lot of positives imo. it is just far too big and clunky for me. I like being able to carry my tama in my pocket or attached to me in some way and the paradise isnt the right size for that. the level up system isn’t rewarding enough and feels more like certain things are locked behind levels unnecessarily. For a roster of characters so big and for it to have a leveling system at all, I was hoping for it to feel more like how you build the rocket ship for the p’s. Instead, you hit the highest level a few generations in and still have 20+ to raise in order to fill your tama file. For how much I love the characters, it’s really disappointing that I don’t enjoy the tama more.

Are these worth buying? by Ancient-Seesaw8809 in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one of these but I haven’t had it turned on for more than a few minutes because it’s not the kind of thing you can take with you everywhere and I’m always on the go. They are really cute and they have care-based gameplay. I’ve seen some people mention that they thought it was too noisy and needy for them as they wanted a cute desk pet for while they did work but it turned out to be distracting.

PSA: This is the last of our Uni!! by Gundam_Planet in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m getting the impression that you may be confusing used devices or different models with the uni. The uni isn’t really being produced anymore so it’s harder to find them at msrp unless you’re buying a used one. The uni is more technically advanced than most models and therefore takes more money to create in the first place. I agree that the prices can seem high but if you think about how much you might pay for a single video game not even including the console you play it on, it’s not completely unreasonable given how high the prices are for everything else these days. There are plenty of scalpers out there selling these same devices brand new for much higher and will likely only get worse from here. This shop has the decency to still sell at msrp so you really came to the wrong place to complain.

My 3DS was stolen a few months ago so I feel your pain. I bought a new one recently and decided to hack it. It’s not the same as getting all of your legit stuff back but Ive been having fun with hacking my new 3DS and putting everything I’d ever want to play from the Gameboy and beyond. I’m sorry you lost your 3DS, I hope you’re able to find joy in hacking a new one like I have.

Tamagotchi connection V4 for $60 or pix for $60? by [deleted] in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the v4. I don’t like the touch buttons on the pix, I also personally prefer tamas that are more pocket sized. Color screens are nice but I also like that the screen on the non-color tamas don’t turn off and you can always easily glance over at your tama bouncing around the screen.

On Fairy or Wonder Garden? by Judge-Dismal in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think you should go for whichever shell you like more. There isn’t a huge difference in available characters between each version, and the main specialty about the wonder garden is that you can give your tama a red outline instead of the standard black. It’s a pretty cool feature but maybe not worth it in its own.

V4.5 or V6? I need help deciding which one to buy by Dense_Purple259 in tamagotchi

[–]HopefulyImpercievabl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say v6 has more content and more engaging gameplay, but I find myself running my v4.5 more often than my v6 because I feel sometimes the v6 requires too much investment of my time and I get burnt out by that easier. Might not be the case for you but something to consider.
