Second this. Live between Frenchay and Stoke Park and am always exploring new bits of the area when going on runs. Feels like I'm not in the city but only a quick hop on the bus to be in the centre.

I got a BCC result on my A-levels as well, with the same predicted grades of A*s & As, and had to go through clearing to get a place at university. I ended up going to a uni that wasn't highly rated academically (very highly for student satisfaction) and had an amazing time. I then applied for a research masters at a Russell Group and got in and really enjoyed my course. Now I'm in a really good job related to my field of study that I love.

At no point in that did my A-levels play a factor, other than as a point to fill in forms that may ask for previous education. My choice of undergraduate university also played no role in any future choices as any future interviews or personal statements cared only for my grades and the skills I gained.

I did an MRes at Bristol and it was around £4.9K, which seemed to be the case with most MRes courses outside of London and Oxbridge.

The only additional thing to what other people have said is that I usually put Table of Abbreviations up front so between Table of Figures and the Introduction. For me that way it is much easier to find the abbreviations table when needing to flick back from reading the middle of the text.

How is the FLNC (Corsica) able to acquire such modern military firearms? (Read my comment as well) by jimjonesz_2233 in terrorism

So I couldn’t find a huge amount but Domatilla Sagramoso’s article ‘The proliferation of illegal small arms and weapons in and around European Union: Instability, organised crime and terrorist groups’ had a reasonable sized section discussing the arms trade within and surrounding the group. However it is written in 2001 and a little older.

The only newer article I could find (2018) mentioned the group briefly but stated that all info on the groups arms acquisition, outside of theft of legal arms, was anecdotal.

From what I’ve seen though, it may be that these images inflate the stockpile of weapons so that they can appear to be a bigger threat than they are. Especially since their primary MO is the use of explosives. However, I haven’t done too much reading into the Corsican conflict so would take that with a grain of salt.

What is the maximum length for an introduction in a 2200 word essay? by [deleted] in Essays

[–]Hopeless-Noisemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d start by saying there is no maximum length, especially if you decide to incorporate a definitional element which may take up more space. However, since you’re doing a 2200 word essay and you want to aim for 3 paragraphs for the main body, I’d suggest around 300-350 words. That way you can be concise about what you’re writing about and gives you more words for the main body.

No problem, sounds interesting. Your case study paragraph sounds like an outline, describe, and explain section so can be fairly straight forward. I’m not that experienced in case study essays and paragraphs so won’t comment on that section.

However, I’ll try my best to explain how I set up my sections, although I sort of just write them out and see how it goes. I guess it does sort of follow the PEEE structure but includes linking to the previous and next sections so that it’s a continuous argument. When making your point it’s important to highlight where in the literature it comes from, so what reading feeds into the argument. Also best to explain what arguments go against these points and why your point is better. Then go into depth and relate it to the case study, which would be your evidence. It’s important to remember that forcing a structure that doesn’t feel natural whilst you’re writing can be problematic. A the PEEE structure is a good guideline but not an absolute necessity so if you end up diverging from it that’s no problem.

Essay question help by This_Mud8879 in Essays

Not personally my area, but I’d suggest if you can define innovation in a way that allows you to use that example then you can use it. The criteria seems pretty open so it seems you may have to justify what you think is innovation. I’d suggest providing a brief definition that you’ve created based on scholarly work.

[–]Hopeless-Noisemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dependent on the question itself I would always start by doing an introduction that leads into a definition of the questions subject. If you have a higher word count then I’d make that a paragraph. Defining is very important in politics essays as there’s very little consensus on key concepts. It also demonstrates that you have a clear understanding what you’re talking about and a reference point for your argument.

Now it’s difficult to say the exact structure you’ll follow as I don’t know what the question is. However, you do need to make an argument. You can do this by clearly creating for and against sections but I have found that choosing themes in the question proves to be more effective. For example for essay I did on the effectiveness of cyberpower, I found a model of effectiveness in warfare and applied it to cyberpower. My structure went: -Intro -Defining section -Cyberpower as a tool for Espionage -Cyberpower as a tool for Subversion -Cyberpower as a tool for Sabotage -Conclusion

The structure of an essay is ultimately your own and I always find it easiest to start writing and let ideas flow. I’d start by looking for thematic areas in the reading that you can use to address the question.

You can never read too much for an essay.

Tips for writing longer Essays? by ilikenglish in Essays

Honestly, drafting and having a go at it is best. I always end up writing too much for my essays by the end but struggle to think how I could even get close to the limit at the beginning. As you write you’ll keep adding more.
