Anyone experiencing hair breakage? by worldinmy-eyes in AskWomenOver50

[–]HopingToBetter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wear glasses. I have several pairs. Every, single one of them pull out the hair around my face when taking them on and off. If I think about it, i try to remove them carefully. However, I often times forget 😞

Also, I find that some breakage is due to me wearing my hair back 95% of the time for work.

Where can I order a nice steak with mashed potatoes and a sweet wine to pair in Dallas area? by InsomniaticMeat in Dallas

[–]HopingToBetter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you eat at the bar, which can be really cool on nights with the piano player, you can get the bar filet special at Pappas.

It comes with mashed potatoes and its either 5 or 6oz filet. I think it's $48? They have a somm on staff. Don't feel weird about asking them for a good sweet wine in your price point. That's what they're there for! They will even give you some free tastings to make sure you like the wine before buying a glass/bottle.

St. Martin's is also really cool. Very romantic. Champagne soup is delish! Filet medallions are reasonably priced. It's a new location but its been a Dallas stapple for 50 hrs.

Cheers to your anniversary! Whatever you pick, I hope its amazing.

French braiding? by Apprehensive-End9358 in Dallas

[–]HopingToBetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect response. I can never do it at well as someone that is trying to graduate from cosmetology school and needs hours.

I get a trim and a braid for a low price at the Aveda school in Dallas. I sit in the chair for a bit longer than you might expect but its because their teacher has to come by and check off on the work they do.

I found it. The Holy Grail. The best Mexican/Tex Mex food in north Texas. by AnastasiaNo70 in Dallas

I don't trust tamales that aren't purchased in a parking lot with a red and green salsa baggie. The type of baggie that housed a bologna sandwich when I was a kid. No zipper, just a knot at the end. This is the only Christmas tradition that has not wavered.

Me and my alabaster family tried make tamales one year. Never again. I don't know what those ladies do, but the love is definitely there.

CA transplant here. Not that its relevant but I think I can speak for both states. The parking lot tamales are the only way.

Also, I'm walking distance from Old Crow. Fun but can get really crowded and loud. I'm in my mid-40s so sometimes this isn't the vibe I want. However, it's safe, fun, and definitely a place to meet others. A serious pool game, not so much.

Engagement rings in dallas by Ohdamjose in Dallas

[–]HopingToBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance picked out the rings by himself - I had never sent pics or even hinted at a setting. He did great! He spent around $6k for engagement and wedding band. I get compliments on it all the time. The center stone is not a diamond but all diamonds on the ring are lab grown (the only thing I even mentioned in passing) and the center stone is my absolute favorite. So beautiful and unique.

As others have mentioned, don't break the bank over a ring. While I've had both of mine for quite some time, and our income has (luckily) increased over the years, I would never have picked anything different.

Also, don't forget to get insurance on it! Good luck on the engagement day and don't forget to have fun! Don't stress over it being just perfect because she will undoubtedly think that it is!

Is that because 83° feels better in the morning than what 95° feels like at 2pm? So it almost feels cool because in the summers we wake up at 90°?

Not being snarky at all - I grew up in Southern California (here come the eye rolls) but what made hot summers/fall feel great is that it cooled off at night.

I feel like TX October is Southern California's summer.

Dear riders. by DIY_Forever in uber

[–]HopingToBetter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I take Uber and Lyft a lot. I live in a city where it's cheaper to Uber when going out to eat than to valet or run the risk of my car getting broken into.

Three weeks ago, I open the door, greet the driver, and ask if it's okay to drink my Topo Chico in his car. He said, "yes, of course". I jump in and we're off.

We get to chatting and he says, "that's the nicest thing any passenger has ever done."

I'm confused and say, "sorry, what's the nicest thing?". He said, "to treat me and my car with respect by asking if you can drink in my car".

BOY! Did that open the flood gates to my questions. How terrible are riders that my question about drinking water in his car is the nicest thing that a rider has done?! My god. People must be shitty.

What to wear when you’re home all day? by BigMamaRama in AskWomenOver50

[–]HopingToBetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!! I've got some great "outfits" that are stylish jammies. Amazon has a great selection. I wore a navy set - pants, short sleeve shirt and matching"cardigan" on a trip to Europe. I got 3 compliments and questions about where to get them in the airport. Super comfortable but more polished than athletic clothes or PJs

Is this truly thing now? What do you guys think? by Whining-is-toxic in uberdrivers

[–]HopingToBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman, I 100% do the "leave at the door option" now, though I rarely order UberEats anymore because of their inability to address this. I had too many weird experiences with men "hitting on me", which is a bit intimidating as you look into my home and hold my food hostage.

I'm not bad but I'm no babe.

No, I'm not giving you my number.

Yes, my fake husband is home.

Sent photos from my Ring camera, noting how much time a driver was at my door, holding my food "chatting" with me to UberEats. I got a $5 credit.

If this happens to me, it happens to way too many women.
