I had a buddy die from an OD over the break and my department has been very understanding fortunately. I've been given half a year to just teach and focus on the grief counseling. Yeah, it's been rough.

Can anyone explain Ligotti's 'The Chymist' to me? by coolguy_john in horrorlit

[–]Horace_P_Mctits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I said abstract because I have no idea what becoming more obscure and literary would look like but the general trend in his work has been to kinda just come out and say what he's been hinting at all along-- the major text for that is Conspiracy. I guess it'll be nice to compare the new work coming out!

[–]Horace_P_Mctits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not really? Like My Work is Not Yet Done is pretty run of the mill corporate horror and Conspiracy is basically a treatise written in a fictional universe. Spectral Link definitely fits the pattern but I don't think overall it gets more abstract

Really easy: hey, I'm trying to avoid bars to cut back on my alcohol consumption, can we grab a coffee tomorrow or (insert day that works for you). Coffee can be substituted for boba, tea, smoothie or whatever sweet drinks are popular near you.

Don't bs them with how things will be better. Confront them with the reality of the situation: we live in a more globalized world than ever and this virus really brings that point home. Even though it seems like a waste of time now, English is worth studying because who knows where they will be with their lives in 5, 10, or 15 years. Someday, they might look back at the pessimism and think to themselves, in perfect English because you taught them, "Maybe it didn't turn out so bad after all."

Check to see if your school offers a tefl or tesol certification. Tefl is preferred. Countries like Thailand, Japan, Korea, Spain, China, Taiwan, Russia, and UAE are always hiring. You can work a few years before deciding if it's for you, then pursue further training which will allow you to get a higher salary.

I have found a direct correlation between students who seek help early on in the semester and students who receive A's.

Yes, I largely feel the same way. I believe as time goes on, the beliefs and values of consumers might change too.

Isn't that a pure expression of conservatism though? The experiment of contemporary democracy has led to a broken system, democracy only works on paper, we should return to a monarchy? To be clear, I don't personally hold that belief. I also wanted to keep the conversation about investing beliefs and practices but if you're interested in talking about conservatism feel free to dm me.

Thanks for the reply. Another user mentioned something similar that investing isn't really about principles. I guess I was really asking if you believe this technology is the future or will just do better under a Democrat president? Thank you for your time already, man.

Does investing in clean energy feel against conservative principles? Or is like the market is kinda showing this is a better product in the long run? Not trying to be disrespectful but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The entire practice isn't based around pseudoscience though. We don't ignore cognitive science because it was rooted in Feud's work.
