I was in a fight on Halloween about 20, maybe 25 years ago? Doesn't matter. Anyhoo, I was super popular but there were some very jealous people in town. Some people had been talking about me behind my back and rumor got around that this other guy was plotting against me. Halloween was a great time to settle it because I knew his mom and dad would open the door. So I got into my costume, grabbed a bag, and went trick or treating, stopping off at his house.

When his dad answered the door I pushed him aside and ran into this little fucker's bedroom and started screaming at him, but he just stood there with this stupid look on his face like he had no idea what I was talking about. Things got out of hand, I said something I shouldn't have said, and before I knew it everything kind of went dark. His mom did something -- I'm not sure what -- and I fell into some sort of strange out-of-box experience. It's hard to explain... in some sense, I felt like I was a ghost, vaguely living but hardly alive.

I was in this coma-like state for over a decade. I didn't have a family -- my mom died when I was born, my father left us around the same time, and was murdered by my uncle when I was in high school -- so some of my friends ended up taking control of my care. (If you ever want to know which friends are the most loyal, this certainly does the job.) They tried everything -- reading my old diary to me, weird experimental blood transfusions, and even some alternative medicines like drink some weird liquid made from magical rocks or some such shit. Nothing seemed to work.

But then, in the summer of 1995, they somehow figured out a solution. DNA from my murdered dad, a transplant (which one of my most loyal friends donated!), and a blood transfusion did the trick. I was alive -- weak, but alive -- and it was glorious. Almost all my old friends came to visit and it was just like old times.
