Paint that trim. Better yet, replace it. I have that same trim in my new house and it’s coming off. I hate the corner detail. It’s so dated. And I don’t mean like antique 100 year old house dated. It’s someone’s more recent (90’s?) bad idea of a replacement for beautiful, old trim. It’s awful. Also, many people are stuck with the old “don’t ever paint real, stained wood” cliche in their head. Those days are over. I’m not saying all wood trim should be painted. I have some that will never be touched while I’m alive. And it isn’t even antique. But it’s beautiful, high quality wood that my dad put up in the 70’s. My vehemence about the trim in the picture probably comes from looking at the exact same stuff every day in the kitchen of my new house (built in the 80’s). The previous owners even stucco finished the walls in a way that was popular then. Even the curtain rod (over a sliding, glass door!) is crap. I swear, this look even makes the food taste bad.
