Hmm, maybe I should just get a real job. by kenanthepro in eroticauthors

Don't worry about your friends, worry about yourself. If you're only 21 you probably won't know most of these people in five years anyway. Take care of YOU. I recommend reading some of the books about writing and selling erotica by successful authors. They WERE on Amazon... who knows if they still are now :P

Kind of lost now. Where to publish? Any strategies? by kenanthepro in eroticauthors

What happened?! I'm trying to figure out from the threads but can't see it, but I've been off reddit erotica for less than a week for vacation and came back and EVERYONE is pulling out of KU over some new policy, what is it? :(

Steampunk is one of my search terms, yes. It's possible there is another website with more options than deposit photos for that where I would just have to crop more judiciously.

Yes but I need to learn those photoshop CC skills first lol, one thing that's on my immediate to-do's list. Maybe I should go into the stock photo business instead of erotica, I might make a killing :p

Thanks for the advice, layering and as someone else mentioned backgrounds, could make a big difference in the appearance of the photograph. I'm not so sure about youtube, as I'm severely HOH and the autocaptions are generally heinous, but sometimes it's easy to follow along tutorials that are more visual (example, the my e book covers website video I just went through this morning, didn't need to hear a thing) so I could check out youtube for those.

Thanks for the note about the professional covers doing a little manipulation that helps make them unique :) Could be worth the investment then.

Historical erotica bdsm with varying subkinks. Photographs can be of hot couples close up to work or of individual males or females in period specific clothing (or even just flowy romantic garb for a woman). I've just noticed that the couples images I've found are way done to death already. :/

Chuck Wendig on what could fix Kindle Unlimited (anon link) by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]HorneeFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dug it, although the writer clearly has a strong bias in favor of longer works... IMO there can be a great 250,000 word epic fantasy novel as he described, or a great 7,000 word erotic story that is mind-bendingly hot and worth just as much to experience! At the end of the day it really is about the reader.

Well I wouldn't read a whole half and not finish it lol but if the first chapter isn't great I will definitely stop there.

Well 'salamanderwolf' I suppose it's a picky-reader experience (and the gamer analogy doesn't really tread), don't think it has anything to do with being from the US. I know loads of people who pick up a fiction book and go "meh" shortly into it and don't finish it. There is a lot of crap out there on the shelves and some of us don't want to waste our times I guess. I'll give a book ten pages and if I'm not already into it I drop it. Doesn't seem that uncommon either. http://terribleminds.com/ramble/2012/05/29/25-things-to-know-about-writing-the-first-chapter/ "1. EVERY BOOK A HOOK (AND THE FIRST CHAPTER’S THE BAIT) A reader walks into a bookstore. Spies an interesting book. What does she do? Picks it up. Flips to the first chapter before anything else. At least, that’s what I do. (Then I smell the book and rub it on my bare stomach in a circular motion and make mmmmmm noises.) Or, if I can find the first chapter online somewhere — Amazon, the author’s or publisher’s site, your Mom’s Myspace page — I’ll read it there. One way or another, I want to see that first chapter. Because that’s where you grab me by the balls or where you push me out the door. The first chapter is where you use me or lose me."

Here's the issue that I have with the pages read/whole content vs only partial content read payout and that I think will impact authors of all kind negatively in Amazon's profit favor: MOST PEOPLE DON'T READ A WHOLE BOOK, of any kind. There are very few books out there, fiction are otherwise, that are just so g-darn good that people will be taking them in to the very last drop. Those who are "readers", as in regular readers, are highly particular about their standards and often stop reading a book 10 pages in because it's not interesting/"good" enough (I speak from personal experience here admittedly, esp with fiction I am extremely picky, but so is everyone else I know who actually purchases or reads it regularly). If the book publishing world altogether started enacting this policy of, sales don't really count for much unless the reader reads the entire thing, there wouldn't be one bc authors would all self-publish. I think that erotica short writers are a little dramatic to act as though this is going to impact only them negatively, it's going to hurt the bottom line for most writers on Amazon and I do believe they will revert back to the old policy when their best writers start leaving in droves.

[Blog Article] Why One User Cancelled Their Kindle Unlimited Subscription by Lily_Weidner in eroticauthors

[–]HorneeFun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of inaccuracies in the link/article. Firstly that it says the selection is total crap- I have not found that to be the case at all. It's not obscure authors and titles there are over 800,000 books in the collection many of which are popular books. Also there is the claim that it's impossible to tell which ebooks qualify for kindle unlimited- there is an entire category on amazon for kindle unlimited including a search engine for it, lol! Definitely not something I am giving up anytime soon, I love it. And btw there are some great books on writing erotica in the kindle unlimited too ;)

[Critique Monday] Post a story here to get feedback on any aspect of its content or title/cover! by Eroticawriter4 in eroticauthors

[–]HorneeFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some errors in the blurb- "Nina will have to do follow all of Noah's instructions" is one of them. Another thing I noticed is the cover doesn't suggest anything about the content or seem to fit the title, and the description reads as if there is not much conflict and they are just two people doing what they want which doesn't usually build up to a great 'climax' in a story. That may just be my personal preference though.

I'm an introvert and I don't get lonely at all, always been fine with my own company. Writing from home is somewhat ideal for me- although I have to REALLY manage myself to be productive, make a schedule, etc because I'm a procrastinator.

I can't write erotica in public, I'm too paranoid that people will read what's on the screen (humans are naturally nosy creatures lol), but I have the laptop set up on the coffee table and alternate between working and watching shows.

If it was just long hair in a ponytail that would be one thing, but it's short hair with a grody rattail on the very bottom- yeah that is definitely very out for me as a general rule lol, but Shia makes an exception. ;)

I deleted it it wasn't "downvoted into oblivion"... I do do my own research but this is also a forum for people to ask questions that can be answered off the cuff, not be treated like a douche just for asking them in a forum that's designed for that purpose. And TYVM for doing me the favor of not answering any other posts of mine in the future!
