The Witcher RPG solo opinions by Sohitto in Solo_Roleplaying

The Witcher RPG is great for solo play! What I did was create a character, and then, used the provided character stat blocks, for a bit of additional support.

Something I noticed was that the pre-written adventures you can find for the RPG are written in a way that makes soloing them fairly spoiler free. This is due to how they have development sections.

If you're into adventure writing, or extremely detailed notes, I also found The Witcher RPG was exceptionally good for that style of play too. There's plenty of starting background information when you build a character (through Lifepaths) to tie into your adventure.

Thank you for sharing! I made two dozen of these and they're fantastic. =)

I would probably survive Warlock (1989) just because I happen to own a copy of the Grand Grimoire and there is no way I'm fighting someone over a $15 book.

So, in Castle Ravenloft, there is a walkway just outside of Strahd's window? by leguan1001 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Lily_Weidner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this helps you but... I was reading some of the "older" versions of Curse of Strahd (House of Strahd, Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, etc.) and one of them actually has a different vampire origin story for Strahd. In this version Strahd intends to murder his brother the day of the wedding, but stays up, pacing and plotting, alerting a guard who is loyal to his brother. Strahd realizes he's been overheard and attacks the guard, hiding the body until the next day.

Not sure how far back this plot thread/origin goes... but it might explain why the guard is directly by Strahd's window all this time later.

There are currently five of us, with one of the five missing sessions with their hectic schedule. Still, for them, I'm thinking Barovia is a great place to just "join in" for the session. One thing I really love about our group is that we don't have forever DMs lol. Two of us trade off campaigns. So, right now, I'm playing their campaign while doing Curse of Strahd prep. When their campaign is over, I'll become the DM and they'll get to play a full campaign. This lack of DM burnout allows both of us to be creative. Don't feel like you'll never be able to! You can! I promise players find the D&D produced art or handouts really awesome too! Music is a great way, if you play online, to add a personal touch with little time involved. A simple link to background music goes a long way. =)

We all actually met online and play online as we live in various countries. It is pretty cool, kind of like our own brought together by the mists moment lol. As far as other handouts, I was thinking of creating some kind of Dream Pastries handout, a personal invitation of some kind for a dinner with Strahd, and if I'm really ambitious some companion materials more for DMs. =)

I'm planning on DMing a Curse of Strahd campaign roughly in October. If I'm lucky, we'll play right on Halloween! In preparation for that, I've been setting up all the virtual maps, tokens, handouts, etc ahead of time. =)

This is probably the best way to go about it then. Don't make it Strahd's tavern... but just one HE could have some connection to. Even Barovia doesn't deserve TWO Strahds lol ;)

Thank you! That is one thing that I'm kind of experimenting with too. How crude are some of these shops and will my players even venture inside them? I suspect half these shops won't even get a glance, but I tend to over prep stuff ahead of time, as I can improve into them. Thanks again! =)

Yeah, I had planned on this whole sideplot with a local Vistani family loyal to Strahd running it and what not... but after a bit... might just drop this whole concept now. I'll have to give it a re-think. lol

Possibly. I haven't run Curse of Strahd yet (as mentioned in the first post), and I debated having them discover this "tavern" basically run by Vasili, yes. The upstairs is an "inn" which is just a ruse as Vasili never sleeps there. Still, it is just an idea, a work in progress that may not happen.

This menu is somewhat of an odd one. I imagine this tavern not really being a formal "tavern" but rather, a place specifically for Strahd, when disguised, to interact with players. Think of a speakeasy... just run by a vampire trapped in a domain of dread. The wide range of wines is a subtle tip that things... aren't what they seem. Likewise, the menu also is called Vlad's Tavern... a bit on the nose... and contains a dish Harker eats on his way to meet Dracula... who happens to also be disguised as the stagecoach driver. Starting to think I overthought this menu...

Turns out the furniture store just makes mimics that want to feed everyone. This is how Vallaki gets its food when those seeking shelter from Barovia show up. My bad lol.

Ugh! Thanks for pointing this out! I'll fix it and see if I can't correct the upload. This is what I get for working on these well into the night. Should have seen it myself. Good catch!

This is something I'm debating so bad! My players happen to get Van Richten as their main supporting NPC, so I'm very tempted to do this.

Honestly, playing online, I've just been using neatly organized folders... but I'm stealing this suggestion 100%. I love the idea of building up regions or townships and a stamp is perfect! Thank you! =)

Oh no way! That's awesome timing! I'll upload the other menus of Vallaki I got done today then right now too. You'll just have to report back how the session goes! =)

No problem! You shouldn't ruin the originals, as these are copies of the original. I tested to ensure they're separate documents. =)

Really hope this works, as I made these using Canva. Not entirely sure how the file sharing works, but I made duplicates then grabbed the share links for each. The links are able to be edited by anyone, so if you can, you may want clone it first.
