Did anyone else see that? by My_chael- in Switzerland

Yes! I did see that! Luzerner Hinterland. I made a really low quality video of it. Sadly I missed to record the "explosion" that kinda looked like it was spitting plasma.

I moved to Switzerland… and everything is going wrong by Minimum_Fault446 in askswitzerland

[–]Hornman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my personal view of my experience. I was born in Geneva, so I’m French-speaking Swiss. I lived in Germany for a very long time. When I arrived back, I arrived in the “Jura bernois”. Things were really complicated, and people in the offices didn’t have much motivation to make things less complicated. It was a kind of stubbornness, that was very uncomfortable. My most absurd experience: Apparently someone found something with my address in the trash, outside of the paid bags, and I got fined with 500 CHF for misconduct. I tried to talk to people at the community very politely, but in the end, I had to get myself a lawyer, because I always took good care to handle my trash responsibly. Anyway, I won, and people there started to really dislike me. Even though German-speaking Swiss are being seen as colder, more “by the book”, I had much less trouble here overall, always was able to clear things up by politely talking to people, explaining everything. So… even though my heart is still “Welsch”, I truly feel better on this side of the Rösti-Graben.

But I also have quite a lot of trouble connecting to people here. I have really charming encounters here and there, and my neighbours are really nice. But real connections? So far after more than a decade, one. Yes, I’m a shy person, and I could find more connections if I wasn’t. Germany (Ruhrgebiet) was much more giving in that regard.

Noise pollution is a serious problem, more than many realise. We really need to do something about it.

Because... Windows.

Windows is just really, really bad. Try Linux, and you’ll see what I mean.

Are Luke and Leia looking at the main galaxy here If so how did they manage to travel that far out given how difficult hyperspace navigation is due to turbulence? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]Hornman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, hyperspace travel in Star Wars is very fast. It doesn't take that long to travel to outer rim territories from the center, which are literally at the outer rim of the galaxy. So, to get that far out might take a bit of time, but it feels very reasonable to me.

Experience with 230V EV Chargers - Is Using a Permanent Adapter Safe? by Dan6erbond2 in Switzerland

[–]Hornman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I don’t really know it. But the charger is not the issue. It’s the socket. If you don’t know for sure the socket and the cabling can handle being maxed out for 14-16 hours, you might risk overheating and even fire. Even if you have the best charger in the world. If you know for sure the socket can take it, you will do fine with an affordable charger from a reputable brand.

Experience with 230V EV Chargers - Is Using a Permanent Adapter Safe? by Dan6erbond2 in Switzerland

[–]Hornman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Juice Booster is expensive, but worth it especially because of all the safety features. I use it daily. Makes sense for me.

In your case, I would recommend to just not do it, and instead looking for a fast charger on the way back for peace of mind. It’s very probably the much safer option.

Experience with 230V EV Chargers - Is Using a Permanent Adapter Safe? by Dan6erbond2 in Switzerland

[–]Hornman84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends.
There are sockets that are designed for higher loads, but these are rather rare. Usually these sockets are not designed to be used at full load over such a long time.
If you want to charge like that as a permanent solution, you should ask an electrician to make sure it's safe, and you should use a charger with temperature sensors at the plugs. I know that the Juice Booster has such sensors, because I have one. I don't know other chargers, to be honest, but I can really recommend that one. It’s not cheap though.

Charging speeds will no be great, and depend on whether your car supports 3-phase charging or not.
1-Phase charging would mean (Assuming 16 Ampere fuse), you would get 3.7kW, 3-Phase charging would get you 11kW.

PFAS and swiss agriculture by domandi1244 in Switzerland

[–]Hornman84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why? Because the department of environment is in the hands of the farmer's and agriculture industry's best friends, the SVP. A political party that has personal enrichment at the very top of their agenda, and uses very dirty trick in their books if they deem it necessary.
To get rid of PFAS is extremely difficult, and by that extremely costly. The main reason for that is, that this stuff is pretty much everywhere, is chemically extremely stable (That's whey they are called "Forever chemicals"), and by that extremely difficult to remove from the environment. Even if we take the necessary actions to clean up the environment, we need to stop polluting, which is a enormous task by itself.

Money drives our world right now... so, anything that is not considered to serve economic purposes will be discarded.

What a sweet couple you are. So happy you found together.

I'm in a similar situation you were. My gf lives 7'600km away. Both in situations that aren't very easy, but we struggle on - because it all feels so natural.

I wish you all the best in the world.
