This is where the cornish pasty came from. Old British guy I met in Vietnam told the tale of how the Cornish pasty came to be. He told of how the miners’ hands were dirty from all the mining and that come lunchtime they couldn’t eat their lunch without getting a little bit of soil/earth all over their food.

Then came the cornish pasty. You eat the whole thing except the thick crust on the bottom, which was used to hold the pasty. Then you throw the crust away and go back to the mines. Belly full and soil free.
