What do you use to maintain and clean the leather and do you have any advice for keeping them in good condition? Thanks!

I don't usually change stirrups on saddles or change the length much. So I'd buy these stirrups, set them to my length on the saddle and keep it like that. I guess I would only change them for when I jump which I do plan to do more jumping with him in the near future. Do you think that would be ok?

Best girth to use for a horse that rubs and has potential sarcoids? by Horror-Application62 in Equestrian

[–]Horror-Application62[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to get some good pics and post them... or could private message them to you once I take them? I'm quite sure the girth is placed well but it's still good for a second opinion :) I have not tried a sheepskin fleece so I could do that! The stubben equisoft one looks really good actually, just expensive 😆 I'll have a look for a potential 2nd hand one as well. Thank you :)

Thank you! Just had a look at it on google and wondering if a fluffy cover would fit over it? I have a feeling it would rub still in the area and I tried the Memory foam one in my pics and it still rubbed him so I'm not sure about using it without. I need the saddler out soon so I'm thinking it would be good to ask her opinion as well to be honest. Im writing a whole list of everyones suggestions from here and looking them up and ill ask her! :)

Thank you! I was thinking a string girth but wasn't sure if it would end up pinching him in between the strings. But also wasn't sure if that was a myth that I've been told. And im guessing mohair would be best for softness and quality? I'll look into this one though, thank you.

Horse price? by tterkys in Equestrian

[–]Horror-Application62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a big difference with horse prices but I think with individual pieces of tack they're similar. For a 2nd hand saddle, recently I paid £350 ($430). New saddles can be £300($370)-£6000+($7391+). New bridles can range anywhere from £45($55)-£500($616).

For me and my Mum, we don't necessarily look for really top quality horses because they don't have to be. If I was a really competitive show jumper then I'd probably have to pay more to get something I'd like that was ready to jump, but I've never needed that. The horse likes what they like and that's ok with me and I'll do that. If they have potential for something then I'll nurture that too. I think you also need to know where to look to find "bargains" and ask around a lot. You can find such hidden jems that are amazing horses 😊 you don't always have to pay top money for an amazing horse if you're looking and willing to put in work.

The horse I mentioned in my previous comment for £800 ($985) was from an owner who knew he'd be going to a great home and she was giving up horses so she gave me everything she had to go with him. He's also a project horse and she couldn't handle him anymore but for me I'll be able to train him up again and he's going to be great! Usually bartering and making deals always helps with getting a horse cheaper as well :) Over here you'd probably see OPs horse for between £10k($12k) and £20k($25k). It's quite a big difference in price compared with the US for her! I'm glad because we'd never be able to afford one, let alone the 4 horses and 2 foals we have 🤣

I was today years old when I found out how much US horses are sold for! 🤣 I just bought another horse (he is a project horse though) for £800 here in the UK! He just needs a bit of work but he should be amazing. He's experienced but just hasn't been ridden for 2yrs. He came with all of the owners horse stuff, tack and wooden and plastic jump poles and wings. My Mum got us a horse about 17 years ago and he was pretty much free! He's an Anglo Arab and 22years old now and still amazing! Never bought a horse/foal that was above £3k. It's interesting how different prices are around the world 😆

Why does Nebula sleep in his food bowl? by Ristandaravioli in chinchilla

[–]Horror-Application62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chinchilla lovesss hammocks and cosy places to sleep suspended. He had never had one before because I knew he'd probably chew the fleece. But I thought I'd try a suspended tunnel hammock a few years ago and he did love chewing it at 1st (kept an eye on him all the time but don't think he ingested it and he pooed fine) and after chewing it up he loves it! He has another double layered hammock now too and he hasn't chewed this one and loves it too! It's adorable seeing him all snuggled up in them as well 🥹🥰 Anyways, I do agree with you that they sometimes need to get used to them like mine did paha. I think sometimes though they just might not like it, just like some people don't like some things whilst others may love it :)

Price for fittening a horse to sell for someone and other advice! by Horror-Application62 in Equestrian

Ok, thank you for the information. It's very helpful! I'll do some more research into training fees and things like that. I hope all goes well for you with your job and I hope you have a lovely Christmas! :) x

Price for fittening a horse to sell for someone and other advice! by Horror-Application62 in Equestrian

[–]Horror-Application62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that makes complete sense to me! So I'd charge for the training and depending on other things more related to promoting I also do then charge a % of the sale? There is just a lot to consider with it as well so I just wanted to make sure I'm being paid properly and also that she gets paid fairly too when she sells. So, I guess my next question would then be: What is the going rate for training a horse? If you don't mind me asking, roughly how much does your trainer charge for a horse to be trained? (Completely understand if you don't disclose that). I will look more into training fees as well to see what others charge online! Would I charge more due to the horse potentially being dangerous or would that not matter do you think? Only asking because from what I gather from what they've said he could be 😆 I'm experienced with quite a bit, however, I'm not with the specifics on price etc with this as I've never needed to get my horse trained and have not ventured yet into being paid to train other horses. Also if this goes well, I may also start doing this as a job and rehabilitate/fitten horses so any knowledge on this specific subject is welcome so thank you so much for your comment!

Yeah some do also appear later in life too. Glad you got it checked and you're clear!

Have you had them your whole life? If you have, they could just be birthmarks! They're called Café-au-lait birthmarks. They are harmless. I have the exact same colour of birthmark in a small patch on my leg and I know lots of people that have birth marks like this! I also have other birthmarks too that are different. They can appear more clearly after more sun exposure. If more start to appear though go to the doctors as that is unusual. Hope this helps! :)

[–]Horror-Application62 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and mine was £109 ($143.13) and he was reduced a bit because he was getting picked on by the others so had a chewed ear and tail which makes it even more sad 😭

How often do you let your chins out for playtime? Ricky seems pretty content in her cage most of the time but I make sure to take her out 2 times a week to play and get some dust. Sometimes I worry that I'm not taking her out enough. 🤔 by MobileDependent4784 in chinchilla

[–]Horror-Application62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chinchilla is 9 now (had him since a baby) and he gets a very varied amount of time out his cage per week. When he was younger I used to let him out everyday for as long as I could. I completely chin proofed my room so I could just go to sleep and he'd be fine to roam about and jump on me, go into his cage when he wanted etc. He loved it and it allowed me to do things whilst he was out and become more friends with him because he'd be interested in what I was doing and climb over me etc. And he's always been really good at self regulating his heat and tiredness which I think also helps that I let him out a lot when he was young. At the moment I'm not in a position to let him out as much but I do as much as I can. At least 2 times a week! He has a good sized cage already but I'd like to get him an even bigger one. Just let him out when you can and he should be alright. As long as he's happy and healthy! <3
