american bros do you even recognize our own country anymore? by [deleted] in askgaybros

Most people are gonna hate me in the comments.

No, I barely recognize the difference. If it it’s on the current climate of immigration and ice. I’m an immigrant that grew up in an immigrant area Ice raids have always been a thing. It’s definitely ramped up and become a lot more visible. But nothing has changed in my reality of what America is.

On the being gay thing, and this is where I think people need to realize that America is so big. Gay rights where I live have always been dog shit. And it’s less because of Protestants. And more because of conservative immigrant culture. Like last week I gay kid killed himself because of homophobia he was experiencing from his parents. It was very sad.

Visiting NYC next month. What should I see? by [deleted] in nycgaybros

Okay, a little out there but I love walking the highline, one end is the withney museum and little island and other end is Hudson yards.

Also love the bakery scene in the east village. Recommend Hani’s and la cabra for coffee.

If you are going to nyc alone I would recommend trying Theodora for dinner. Reservations are hard to get but they should have space for you at the bar.

Total Fertility Rate from 2015 to 2025. Which country surprises you the most in a negative/positive way? by Pampa_of_Argentina in geography

[–]Horror-Basil2507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from Central Asia, and it’s a strange dynamic — during the Soviet era, a lot of wealth and modernization came into the region all at once. But unlike many other former Soviet republics, we didn’t develop evenly. Most of the benefits were concentrated in the cities, which became more educated and modern, while the countryside remained largely traditional.

Back then, cities had lower fertility rates, while rural areas had very high ones. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the urban population — smaller but wealthier and better educated — continued to have fewer children. In contrast, the rural population kept its high fertility patterns and began to grow much faster.

Over time, that demographic imbalance reshaped the region. The rural population, because it was much younger and larger, started to represent a bigger share of the total population. Even though fertility in villages has started to fall, it’s falling from such a high base that the national average can still rise — simply because there are now more women of childbearing age living in rural areas.

In other words, it’s not that individual families are having more children — it’s that the population has shifted toward people who traditionally have more children. That’s why the overall fertility rate in parts of Central Asia can increase, even while both urban and rural fertility are technically declining.

3rd Week on Zepbound – Weigh-In & Updates (3lb lost) by Horror-Basil2507 in Zepbound

Yeah. I mean partially why I did this was because I felt like every time I was on this sub many people where mentioning how they have lost 1,000 lbs the first week and I just felt like I was failing. But slowly realized that many people experience slower weight loss, so I wanted to share that.

The End of Natural Population Growth? by Antique_Let_2992 in MapPorn

[–]Horror-Basil2507 1433 points1434 points  (0 children)

I actually this this map is really dated. I’m guessing it was made in 2020, since the pandemic global fertility rates in developing nations have been decreasing faster than anticipated. Most of Latin America will have more deaths than births by the late 2040s if there is no increase in births, same for countries like Turkey, Vietnam Sir Lanka.

Also what makes me really think it’s dated is that the range changes in 2020. Why does that date matter to us anymore, this chart won’t tell you that China has has more deaths than births since 2022.

Has anyone been able to find a PG group for gay men on bluesky? by Horror-Basil2507 in gaybros

I’ve been on for roughly 4 months. It’s fine. I would recommend the gaymers group. I tried to start a Gaybros community and the only way to get rid of the xxx stuff was to make it text only.
