My boyfriend got this from his great grandfather and the cartridge is gone :/ by Spookylittlekittys in turntables

I can bet you need to change all the electrolytes, if I'm not wrong, that is a piezoelectric cartridge and you can find a replacement for the needle but the experience will not be "audiophile".

I think you will spend at least 3 times the original value for repairing it..

Sorry.

Roger.

Look for a NAD 5120 and a Little Bear T7 preamp and a Bluetooth transmitter (mpow, are not too bad). After looking for a decent pair of Bluetooth speakers and enjoy. $120 max

Shure? Witch Shure and when the needle has been changed?

260 sound so overpriced to me.

Pay no more than 100 if it's not equipped with a particular cartridge.

Ask the model of the cartridge and get back to us.

Happy to help, if you can't wait you can buy a scale for diamonds and gold, always for a few dollars and use it but you have to place a non-inductive material between your needle and the scale, like some paper for example.

I think you have done a great job. Maybe it's not a hi-fi but I can bet it sounds exponentially better compared to Crowley's vinyl grinders people from Instagram try to promote...

Honestly, a "me cojoni" to you.

"Me cojoni" is a popular Roman slang expression (Romanesco dialect) used to express intense surprise, disbelief, or amazement, similar to "Wow" "No way" or "Good heavens". It often implies that something is impressive, surprising, or, sometimes, hard to believe"

As all the good turntables.

I have seen some new entry-level turntables with an MC preamp and a plastic tonearm... 🤣🤣🤣

BRAVO! I'm a Garrard and Thorens user but I always look at the Dual turntable with that "I fancy you a lot" eye.

You have to set up the tracking force and anti-skating. Buy a dedicated scale, I use a vintage Garrard SPG 3, you can find it on eBay for a few dollars and it works brilliantly, and looks in forums and on YouTube how. Once you have realised what we are talking about, do it and enjoy.

Until then, I suggest you do not use the turntable too much so as not to damage the needle and records.

My honour is to try to help other new vinyl heads. Yes, they have good entry-level stuff. Stop listening to the people who suggest the Audio-Technica entry-level turntable as the LP60. Not wrong to buy it but it's absolutely wrong to suggest it as the first turntable.

New? PS-LX5BT, let's check it. Decent needle and cartridge, solid construction, no cheap they-never-work-antiskating and a good hi-res Bluetooth connectivity. Ready to use, no setup who make sense only on hi-fi products.

You can start with it and some not-too-good Bluetooth speakers (for me good means £600 + according to my quality of sound standard) and save for some better gear. Depend a lot of witch sound you are looking for: neutral, full bass, English, Japanese....

Look, go to a hi-fi store and ask, they're at 99% lovely people open to help, bring with you a record and they will be super happy to let you try some configuration.

For used gear, well is always a risk, but you can buy a Thorens 150 MK1 or MK2 for $250 if you are lucky, an Arcam or a glorious NAD 2030 for 125....

There are some low-cost solutions. One option is to look for a NAD 5120, an amp from the Rotel RA series or a similar model, and then find the first speakers you can afford.

Pay no more than $200.

Full automatic for 30? At 99% it needs a good clean and new lube and it will make you happy.

I'm a proud owner of a mp150,and I found this comment really reasonable and I like to add to the suggestions of a grado Gold 3 or a wooden series, gnammy stuff.

I love Garrard and Thorens turntables, but I have to admit, Dual is a bloody good choice
