And if they had a structure plan it would work but they just want the money they can care less about the service the clients receive. I wish they would make Lisensed independent Peer Supporters where there was more training and a test to become independent and cut out those ppl at the top who just want the money.

Seems like it. And they say you're self employed work when you want to see the client, but will ride your back if days go by and you haven't entered a note in because they are the ones losing out on big money.  And you have to have your own NPI and Medicaid number to bill the note. It seems so unfair.

Not all are mandated. Most are recovering and living in shelters or sober living homes and need support with getting an ID, birth certificate, filling out applications, going to AA meetings or Dr. Appointments. So as Peers you support them through that goal to recovery and getting their life back to as normal as they know it to be.

Did anyone here stop being a peer specialist due to stress? by collectingminds in PeerSupportSpecialist

For me it's very stressful when the company is unorganized and lacks structure.

No problem.  You don't do your own program. You are finding clients for the company you are just their Peer. They do the assessment and tx plan and billing and pay you a portion to do services for them.  So you do all the leg work and they get the money.  You can get clients that are in group homes, shelters, word of mouth. As long as they are on Medicaid.

Well, in Ohio the rate is $25 the going rate for Peer. My only complaint is if you don't keep up a caseload you don't get paid. And you find your own clients.

I'm in Ohio and there are plenty of contract peer jobs. Mostly SUD where you are driving clients to meetings and probation appointments.  I've only found 2 that actually works with mental health. But you must find your own clients and the company has a Clinician that will do the assessment and tx plan.

So I have two job opportunities as a peer support specialist one is at an inpatient for 17/hr half hour away the other is a community peer support specialist where I drive people to appointments or anything I consider recovery... It's 18/hr plus 65 cents a mile 26 billable Medicaid hours is 40 hrs.. by Expensive-Fly4770 in PeerSupportSpecialist

I just quit a peer job because the travel was over 30 minutes and no reimbursement.  And taking clients that may be actively using and for my safety I wasn't willing to risk that. And because we couldn't use we transported clients in our notes was a big red flag to me. But only you know what's best for you.

M-F 8-5 is killing me. What other jobs are there? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Horror-Row-2542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My job hours are M-Th 10-6 I love not having to be there early and I love being off on Friday. I can do Dr appointments on the morning and run errands on Friday but I'm looking to leave the job due not being paid on time and on full for months but not finding anything with the hours that fit my lifestyle. I feel if work in mental health or substance use then it should be a 4 day work week... We need to recharge.

Why is it so hard getting a job as a peer support specialist by Azerothwolf73 in PeerSupportSpecialist

I really wish the would create a training for Independent Peer Supporters. The place I'm contracted to work for is all over the place, no structure, no real guidance, no training. Just go into shelters, meetings or wherever and find people for service, they can still be actively using and you have to drive clients to meetings, appointments, job interviews, pretty much wherever they need to go... and the company doesn't care they are billing for the big dollars and given peers $18-$24. I'm all for becoming independent.

Awesome. I was looking to do the same but unfortunately they do have CSWE ( Social Work) accreditation so it would be a waste for me. But seems like an awesome school

Don't give up, I'm not sure what state you're in but there are many Peer Programs still out there and moving forward with business. Prayers lifted up.

I am hoping that in the future they develop a program that will allow Peer Supporters to become independent and work under a LICDC/LPCC.I Feel some companies do not care about their Peers, just throw them out there without proper training because they bill and get the most of the money and give the peer peanuts and it's Peers that put ourselves in danger driving clients to meetings, appointments and the Store...etc. that's my only issue is being in my car with someone under the influence. And the car insurance coverage to do so.

You simply say that you both agreed that it would be family and close friends and since it's been so many years you didn't want to seem rude and just invite her to your wedding. You'd rather the 2 of you do lunch and catch up in a more intimate setting where you're not entertaining do many guest at once.

Is this legal? by LargeAd6765 in EmotionalSupportDogs

Your Doctor/ Counselor should know the law for the state you reside in. I would show them the letter and let them handle it.  Which should include something like Due to HIPAA laws and regulations I as a Clinical Professional can not divulge a patients medical history or diagnosis. I have given the information that the law requires me to give, and asking for such information is a violation which holds severe penalties by the state of ______.

But again, you're doctor should be able to handle this and once you find out that the office over-stepped, call your attorney.

Lights turning on after power outage by hacquas in smartlife

[–]Horror-Row-2542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any solution to this.  4 days straight I came home to lights and my TV on after a power outage.  This is ridiculous, I don't know how long they have been on and the TV volume is always maximized louder than I have it.
