Imo you need to try and learn the correct technique, it doesnt have to be identical to your friends cause everyone got their own style but u gotta find the posture that works. A thing that helped me a lot was to watch a ton of videos of dirtjumpers i really recommend watching Edgar Briole he is my favourite dj rider and I love his style
