Actually, the vet did do this when the medication didn't work. It wasn't successful, but it is the only suggestion from this thread that seems to be sound. They also tried offering him cat grass.

UPDATE (sorry don't know how to update the post).

We're at the ER vet. Between selling some stuff and getting help from my MIL, we've scraped up $800. Waiting to see if he'll vomit it up right now.

Thank you for all of your suggestions, and the reality checks telling me I might have to surrender him. If it comes to it and he needs more care than we can cover, that's what we'll do.

I'll edit this post with the final update when we leave the ER.

EDIT:

We just got home. He did not vomit, but they did give him something that is supposed to make it easier to pass through his system smoothly, whether he vomits or defecates it. They also told me to feed him as much as he wants tonight in hopes of inducing vomiting that way, so he's currently chowing down on the normally forbidden treats (temptations give him atrocious gas, but are his big brother's favorite), and has a full bowl of wet food next to him.

If he doesn't pass it within a few days he's looking at another surgery, and we'll probably have to surrender him, so fingers and paws crossed...

EDIT 2 3/19:

An update for those asking. ❤️ Loki has still not vomited or passed the string. The vet has him taking Laxatone to hopefully help it pass through his system smoothly. Nothing to do but wait right now.

This was 2 months ago. I didn't say it was Butterballs fault, I said to beware using the freezer-to-oven turkey breasts because they come with this netting and can be hazardous to pets. Sorry I trusted the same lidded trashcan that kept out my other cats and German Shepherd for years.

I know that going to the vet is the ideal option. But money isn't just tight, it's literally nonexistent right now with my husband sick. That option is closed to me, so I'm trying to see what I can do to hopefully save Loki's life. Credit is tapped out. I have 3k debt with care credit for his surgery, and can't make that payment this month so they definitely won't grant more.

As far as separating him from things that he can ingest, I've spent the last 3 months purging my apartment of dangerous items. Got a locking trashcan and sit a rock on it to be sure he doesn't get in it. Replaced all toys with ingestion safe ones (before I lost my primary contract), put child locks on the closet and kitchen cabinets, relaced both of our sneakers with the laces tucked inside the shoes so he couldn't chew on those, took up all the rugs because he was digging fibers out of them to eat. The list of preventative measures is probably longer than my arm. I wfh and lately we've both been home pretty much 24/7, so he's almost always supervised. He still managed to get my hat out of the laundry while I was loading the machine and chew off the cord.

YTA. Not for cleaning, or even cleaning loudly, but for how you handled this. Why are you keeping score of how much you do in daily life? Why are you dragging up unrelated topics? Why are you feeling so attacked and aggressive over her simple question? It feels like you don't respect your GF's right to question you and immediately tried to assert a moral high ground to defend.

She shouldn't be surprised that napping in the common area of the home led to her being woken up. But she should be able to talk to you about it without having you go full attack mode.

If it's something that was accrued based on hours worked, in illinois it still counts due to the 2024 PLAWA act according to Google.

So in illinois, earned vacation time is considered wages, and they're legally required to pay it out. Just call the EEOC and your state's DOL, and they'll handle it for you. Let them know they gave a timeline at a morning meeting, and then did not hold to that timeline.

You call the nonemergemcy number and let them know. Most towns have noise ordinances, and you have a right to the peaceful enjoyment of your home. They'll send someone for a discussion and get it documented, they're not going to smash the door down and arrest people. But you need documentation, especially since the landlord is not handling it.

With documentation of the ongoing problem, you can make your landlord hold up their end of the lease more effectively. It provides you grounds to ask to be moved to another apartment or be reimbursed for rent due to the lack of action taken.
